Ok.. I got a letter thru the post today from HMRC

it says in big letters at the top

Your new tax code for the year 6th april 2010 to 5th April 2011 is 292t,
which replaces 297t


all ok. i understand that bit, they are adjusting my tax slightly 2/3 of the way thru the tax year.


BUT, my question is, From that do the tax office think I've been on tax code 297t since april earlier this year??
Because my pay slips say 138t on them, so surely I've been paying slightly more than that???

dont know if i should expect a cheque or a bill ???? LOL

they will simply adjust the ammount you pay during the year if you haven't paid enough

or will send you some money i you've paid too much so far at the end of the year

Either they've cocked up altogether or;

You may have been on 297 for a very short time but not been notified about it.

It may be that your employer has got it wrong with 138.

Did you get a notice earlier this year, pre April about being 138 or has it been that for years?

It's been 138 for quite a while, didn't ever get notified of it changing to 297. So i'm assuming things have been messed up somewhere. Just a bit confused. Lol
