The standard engine?not worth bothering with really as it's what 105bhp on a good day out of the factory and after youve spent about £1000 getting it up to say 150-160bhp you could just lump a 1.8/ 2.0litre zetec in there and start off with 130+ bhp.a few choice mods and easily achieving 160-170bhp for about half the price and more reliability.
If your going to turbo it,which is relatively straightforward again the worlds your oyster regarding tuning,130 as standard but chip, exhaust and cam takes you to 170/180 bhp but they can be a little more troublesome than the zetecs.
The ultimate really for fwd is the zetec/duratec turbo IMHO,some stupid power figures from those engines but again it depends on:
A:your wallet
B:your ability
C:time
D:hassle
E:increased insurance
Personally, for under £500 I'd shove the full zetec conversion in,plenty of guides on here how to do it but get the whole car and you can always sell some of the parts off to fund it as well.
Let's be honest, there's hundreds of mondeos and escorts for well under £500,even under £200.
Do a few searches on here fella and you'll find umpteen threads on it.
Looking at the car tbh it looks mint mate, after all with fords the bodywork is more important than the mechanics IMO.
