Default Oil Breathers and Pipe Sizes ????

I was at Oulton Park on Friday watching a MLR trackday and just couldnt help but notice the oil breathers.

Loads of cars had 1 or 2 -10 feeds to the oil breather/catch tank but then only run a single -6 vent or drain to atmosphere.

Does'nt having this single smaller sized vent to atmosphere make the 2 -10 fittings seem like overkill as it is now a restriction or is there more to it?

think the drain dont wanna be large as its oil returning

the breather is just to relive the presure which then contains oil vapour, large breather tank and then the air is taken care of i would have thought as you aint gonna fill too much with air UNLESS there is a air leak as in rings blowing/loss of compression

though ill be honest i aint looked that much into it apart from how to plumb mine up pmsl

i have also used a monster can i have emptied and also used another for my gearbox and some clear 10mm internaly braided hose which i hope will be fine

So really the can just acts as extra space for the engine to breathe into with the breather port just allowing air in and out

well sort of, after 1963 the breather would be to atmosphere, now it it to be burnt off in the engine ( hence it goes back to the air filter) when the car presurised more ( worn rings) the engine "breathes heavy" but also when you drive the car hard it will naturally loose some air round the rings

uprated breathers seem to hide the fucked engines for a few months in some cases but also the extra capacity seems to be needed in performance engines anyway

my gearbox breathes VERY heavy or should i say it did and was told fitting abreather would stop it pissing oil out of the seals ( which it was doing)

remeber that the engine can loose oil also through the breather due to oil splashing so fit the pipe higher to the oil will drain back down into the engine or you will be using shite loads of oil too and make the roads a nightmare for motorcycle riders

Can make yourself a diy breather using pipe and stainless steel scrub buds, a lot cheaper than after market ones.

Should your breather pipe go to a tank then if you dont have an airbox?

Mines just hanging down since I've fitted my Jenveys and didn't really think about it.
