Hi mate, no still in a wetsuit!!! Yes helmet in that weather. Decided that a super charged ski is a no as the weather my mates want to go out in wouldnt warrant the big bhp, they no faster in that sea than a 100bhp ski. Jumping where its at!

I only ever wear a 3mm suit all year round but never a helmet as i found with the larger area round your head it gives the water more to hit in rough.
I also went out in all weather and whist your half right there is a big diffrence when the powers there if you need it when you get caught off gaurd.
If all you do is jump best avoid the s/c skis as that kilsl the s/c.

Proper toys the old jet skis, I had a couple back in the late 90's but I had the mans ones namely the stand up skis, take a bit of mastering but you get wet more often sit down skis are for girlies

Phill
i didnt know you were into ski's!
fancy joining us next year for something different http://www.xtremeaction.co.uk/jetbou/

we missed this year's holiday as my ski was waiting for engine parts from the states but apparently there were around 300 people turned up over the 10 days and 3 lorry loads of ski's.

your absolutely right about the big power craft, they are less fun in the rough stuff due to the weight , thats why i got this little peach, its only around the 160hp mark

but its even more fun than my stand up in the rough stuff.

xps arent really good in the rough better at jumping than what phils are though.
Know a few folk that went on that last year and this btw theres also a feature in jetski+pw this month.

The big power seadoos are very light so i dont know where you get there no fun in the rough due to weight.
The kwaks are heavy but theres no stock ski made will keep up with a stock s/c kwak in the chop.

I get it from owning a 06 charged gtx barge for 2 years and riding nearly every weekend with 3 other friends with charged seapoo's one of which is a brand spankers wake edition which still feels heavy.
Theyre fine if you want to go fast in a straight line but if you want to throw them about in the air they dont respond as well as the smaller lighter ski's. Not to mention having to push the dam things up the ramp because the recovery quad has died.

xp's are one of the most responsive 2 seaters of that era which is why they won so many race's. they have exellent power to weight which makes them brilliant fun in the surf and even better with a little more brap

opinions on ski's and branding are very much as diverse as in the car world, personally i cant afford to buy an new ski but even if i could i wouldnt as my mates new (only 12 hours so far) 4-tech is not as responsive in the chop as my 10 year old 2 smoke xp (even if i do get thrown off much more often)

My last brand new ski was an RXP-X which as im sure you know is a very light race ski whish between that and the earlier rxp has cleared up at havasa since they were released.
Obviously a bit more lbs than an xp but instand power and a hull designed for speed/handling.The px i had after tunning had a power to weight ratio of 726 per ton.

The skis you quote as having ridden are cruisers and 3 seaters not sports skis.I agree though that for wave jumping the xp is a very good ski but disagree with you that the heavyier skis are no good in the rough totally.Maybe up heres diffrent where we ski has 3 seas that meet so the waves get high very quick.

I agree with the opinions are like cars etc but the skis im quoting have pedigree and are still cleaning up in cc world and/or off shore endurance like LB2CAT.

Ps brad did you have that ski up for sale last year on pistonheads?Had a jetshed rebuild?

...my mate said the XP's are proper ski's, i was gonna get one but was warned i WOULD be falling off regular I love my Kawasaki it rund the semi dry sump version of the zx12 bike engine...its go loads of low down grunt very stable and really protected from the waves....i went on the Yamaha GP800R and even with trim set accordingly the waves just crash over you causing no visability LOL as u can see in last pic with head cam on. BUT i must say its a lovely ski....My Polaris is a 2003 and only done 17 hours! but the kawasaki has done 181 hours on a 2003!

I only got this one a few months ago but im pretty sure the previous owner had it on ph before he ran it with a blown headgasket and blew the motor. It was an ex race ski built by jetshed tho your right.
I bought it because the gtx was boring me to tears and bad landings on the old sj and sxr were putting me out of work for weeks at a time and it seemed like a good "inbetween" ski, unfortunately i ride it hard and have had it land on me a couple of times now so that plan didnt work.

one of the guys at our launch has an rxp-x and its a freakin monster that seems to pull hard from standstill to limiter so i see where your coming from, he never comes out in the rough tho as he doesnt want to "hurt it" .

we dont very often get BIG sea's here so we only get around 10ft swell to play with on the best of day's . although id probably kill myself if they were any bigger , i sometimes mistake my ability with my intentions and thats where it all goes horribly wrong

i actualy was intrested when it was up for sale to arse about with but i cant remember when i called he told me sumthing that put me off.

we go out all year round but the worst was a force 9 and had to launch in the harbour slip seas about 20ft+ but honestly very relaxing but in all honesty i wouldnt go out in that unless i knew the ski as if your off you aint getting it back or maybe back!
We had the coastgaurd waiting on us and got jeeps reg etc taken and asked for details as if anything happened we would have to pay in future as they demed us irresponsable.

Lol has your mate a clue about skis?those engines are near bullet-proof if looked after.

My very first s/c rxp i put 79hrs on it from november-march all in the sea.
The gp800r is like an xp in the sense of size.
Nothing will handle the sea like the kwaks................I got sent the spec of the 2011 from a dealer i know the new ultra is 300hp and holds 18psi lol.

lol , no the bloke said it was his 1st ski so he had no idea, he flushed it without the engine running so im sure you can guess what happened there!! thats why i had to source the parts for a new motor.

yeah there not the most stable of craft
I think you have 2 pretty good ski's for what your doing tho , comfy , brisk and more importantly cheap(ish) to fix when they go wrong. its all about putting a smile on your face and obviously they do

its only what 4m of swell?? not that much really. probably not fun on a jetski. Get yourself a RIB for the rough days! handle the big swell much better plus a bit more practical for the colder months.

is that the unattached end of herne bay pier i can see in pic2, i used to have a s/c 185hp seadoo, loved that out in the rough weather, could get loads of air, the rougher the better, and at the time i lived 100 yards from the sea with ramp
