Common problems with the zetec's are coil packs and plug leads. It might be worth checking your spark plugs too.

Could be the coil pack as said, there are actually two or more generations of coil packs the later ones don't suffer with the problem of breaking down like the earlier ones, would err on this more than the rest of the ignition system, as it only does it when warm which shows it could be breaking down under heat.

i had this recently on a 1.8 focus and it needed a valve, was a 2003 with 75k miles and fsh. was only a very mild misfire at low revs.

only found out it was the valve after trying coil pack then plugs.

apparently quite common.

it needed a valve!!! i've never heard of a focus needing a new valve unless the timing belt has gone and bent the fuckers. or are you on about some other valve??

first things to check are the service items so plugs (when were they last done and are they gapped correctly), leads (if original then they are definately past their best now). has the fuel filter ever been changed??? soo many places dont bother with that one.

it could also be as said the coil pack as the black top zetec coil packs arent as good as the earlier generation found on silver top zetec. it might be opening up a crack or something when warm. if you know anyone else with a focus its worth trying their coil pack on yours to rule it out.
