Random but having a major paperwork sort out, as ive got too much crap!


Found my first payslip as an apprentice sep 2006 £96 a week

And a 28" toshiba TV a bought a month later @ £600 ( still got it tho! ) and only paied £27 more last year for a Full HD 42"


But seriously whats the recomended time to keep,

utility bills
bank statements ( tho its all online now aswell )
pay slips

I have all of mine going back 7 years. Never know when you get asked for shit. Takes up space, but you just know someone will ask for it just after you've thrown it out.

pay slips and mobile phone bills etc, as soon as i get mine i shred them
bank statments are all online, dont get any via post.
probably should keep some, i would guess at 2 years being a reasonable time?

My mrs shredded a load of her old ones last week, and this week she got a letter from the tax office saying she owes £600 from 2008 It's a fuck up from her old employer so she's had th request her old statements again from her bank to prove when she's been paid.

I normally keep this years and last years, then shred the year's before. So in january 2011 i'll be shredding 2009!

keep all my payslips but nothin else all gets binned straight away

7 year minimum if self employed-
stick em in a box file and store-you never know when you may need them

i've got them going back to around 1990, keep my old bank statements as well

now everytihng is online you tend to get less of them and if you don't have the internet, getting copies is a fucker

I heard 5 years, but don't know if that's true.
I did have all mine going back 20years at one point, but it was getting abit much , so out came the shredder.
