Default broadband

got an adsl modem and the phone line has been set up and all that, now its working if i plug it directly into the phone socket but if its upstairs(where i need it) im using an extension cable but obviously it isnt up to the job because the modem will not work when its plugged into this.

so do i just need a high speed extension cable or somthing?

you can only go so far with extensions on broadband, upto 10m if i remeber as i had a laptop i tried running to the other side of room wen some1 else was on pc, best thing is to get a phone socket up stairs and then run your mircofilter through the one upstairs like normal.

Im running like your set up at home no problem.

I have the BT box downstairs, split with 2 extensions, 1 goes upstairs and 1 into the kitchen. Have you got the filters in line correctly ? It should be at the nearest point to the PC. And every phone should have one fitted in line too.

I solved the same problem at my mates yesterday, as he just put 1 filter straight into the main BT box and tried to split it after that.

Worth a try before you go buying unnecessary cables

make sure you don't 'double filter' it though. i.e use 2 filters on the same cord ( sounds obvious but some people put one on near the box and then another at the back of the puter
