Default Brush painting a car??

Has anyone done this and had ok results? Poor mans paint lob

I know it wont be as good results as spray. I am going to do the track car from black to orange.
I have painted boat top sides before but they are smooth to start with, I used a marine paint called toplac and a decent gloss brush.

Is it best to paint on an undercoat first (High build) then the colour, then flat and polish?

what paint is best to use.

Use some quality automotive paint (mixed with thinners of course) and a foam roller!

That way you get a smooth'ish 'orange-peel' finish which can be mopped and polished smooth afterwards.

Seen it done a few times...

I painted a Volvo 740 with rollers and brushes once, came out pretty well. Used rollers to do the bulk of it, then brushes for the detail work. Was military vehicle paint though

I have some foam rollers. Rounded ends fo you don't get a line build up like ones with flat edges. Think I may have got some marine polyurethane... rescue orange lol same as lifeboat colour.

My old man painted a Land Tover 109" with a roller years ago, it was red one day then bright yellow the next.

It looked really good and didnt have a single run in it, he used JCB paint.

We done the "BeeDub" with house paint and it came out surprisingly well. We rubbed it down and primed it first then just went at with paint brushes.

if you are useing house hold gloss i would put some teak oil in it this will make the paint take longer to dry = less brush marks and orange peel but its hard to keep dust and flys off.

that brown fez looks the dogs

my m8 painted his old transit about 10 years ago in brilliant white dulux. it wasn't too bad, but it was the white'est van you have ever seen, you couldn't look at it when the sun was shining.

I did the inside of my cortina with a foam roller, and brushed in the corners.

i put it on quite thick and the brush strokes "ran out" and it has a nice shine to it. perfectly acceptable anyway.

Hi all,

nice brush jobs , proves it can be done, I used to work with a guy taught me how to brush paint cars, hard work and time consuming also, but the finish can be better than spray painted for bog standard colours, non of the metallics etc. He used to recommend Tekaloid synthetic enamel paint, even used to do his home decorating with it
