Default xr3i uncovered.

My dad bought this some years ago to save it from the scrap off a friend who had had it from new, it has been in dry storage ever since.
My dad had no intention of restoring it as old fords are not his thing and he prob wouldnt waste his time on it but thought at the time it was too good to break or crush + he knew the car from new. I decided to go and have a look at it and a few other vehicles stored there to see how they were fairing up, and to my surprise the Xr3i looks in good shape, obviously in need of two front wings, and could do with a couple of doors otherwise the floor, boot, sills and rear arches are really good, and the battery tray is original and never been welded which is rare. (apparently it was drowned in wax oil from new)
the interior is also immaculate + the body is straight.

I know its not worth anything in reality, and although it started 1st time with a new battery + runs sweet it has covered 120k- do you think it is worth doing the little bits and putting it back on the road, i already have two brand new wings for it so was thinking it would make a kind of a cool everyday runaround, u dont see many anymore on the road??

opinions please- i wont be offended with answers such as 'put a match to it' etc either

Gotta be worth a punt! As you say, mint condition, you certainly won't be retiring on the profits from it, but yes, nice little car that you don't see about any more!

What else is stashed away there then?

Probably worth saving for the sake of it?

a s1 rs which i built up 8 years ago before selling it to a guy in newcastle- i've just been rebuilding after buying it back off the same guy, spent a fair bit of time and money on it this year ready for next summer if we have one!

ha ha no escort cosworths or rs500's hidden away im afraid-
couple of old citroen light 15's that dads restored, couple of old motorbikes, bmw's, Bsa's couple of race bikes etc and my grandads cherished Bentley speed 6, which has just sold :-(

i think i'll be going ahead with it tbh, i havent got a winter project on at the moment so will tidy it up and get a few pictures up soon hopefully.

yeah not really looking to sell it, cant see myself using it very often but its quite nice to see different cars on the road now and again, and i would say there are loads more S1's out there than Xr3i's as ppl have rescued the S1 as they are more of a benchmark car, although my dad say's that the Xr3i was still an awesome car when it was made back in the day.

Also my mate's after your XR2 lol

Most xr3's have prob been re-shelled as s1 turbos lol!!

lol which one?? Im guessing the blue one?? Is you mate PT?? If so, already had a pm!! Altho, it would take a hell of a lot to amke me part with her, even if she does spend 90% of the year in the garage!!

yeah thats him, loves a wheel kick, to be fair he has his eye on one but has to wait until its finished so i think he has it heart on that 1, but just thought he might be able to prise yours away, we all hope lol!!!!

The XR3 has never been re-shelled, it has had two new front arches in the past, and they are the only really bad bits on the car???

your car is ace, and im not even a fan of fiesta's.

Dont sound a bad car then mate, you'l regret it if you dont!!

If you can make money then do it for that reason. If it's to "save" a 3i then that reason sucks

to be honest if i wanted to make money, buying an old ford would probably be some way down my list of investments.

i'll fix it then use it. deal.

Well if all you have to do is repair it and you've already got the wings, get cracking!!

As you say it's nice to see something different.

I seen a Corsa racing a Mk2 Escort yesterday down the A1 on my daily commute
