Default spot weld size

just wandering if any one new what size spot weld drill i would need for drilling out the spot welds on rear chassie rails on an escort mk4 thanks.

I think spot cutter come in sizes 5-8 mm would check my cutters but im not at home

just check the indent size then add 2mm that should do it

just buy a spot weld drill bit, they are one size on the cars at work im sure as its the only size we keep in stock, its not like a normal drill bit either its better and lasts for ages

just though the bits have a guide pin drill each spot center with a 2.5-3mm through hole cos the bits tend to move about like hell! each spot hardens the serounding steel making it more skiddy

If you get the ones from machine mart that look like a mini cutter they have a spring loaded pin on them that you just centre punch the weld then they seem to hold on a lot better than the standard 8mm spot drills.

Their a great bit of kit those machine mart ones as the cut around the weld and leave a little bit of the weld behind,so it's pips to weld the new panels back in without a spot welder,gives you a nice area to bite too.
