Escort gti white smoke coming from exhaust drinking loads of water?
hi i have a s reg escort gti and it seems to be going through loads of water and running a bit lumpy and also has white smoke coming out of the exhaust......please help

yeah def head gasket.my escort si did exactly the same.started bellowing out white smoke and misfiring.water was getting into the chambers via head gasket and soaking one of the spark plugs

As noted above, a few thou of the head faces would be the order of the day, also check the block faces for excessive pitting.

A lot of zetecs develop a fisure crack in the head as well, so may need a deeper skim, although of course machine shop will advise, this happens/can happen without any overheating.

My dads 1.6 zetec started to overheat a year or so ago, he limped it abit closer to where i could tow him but the whole engine was buggered!
When i sold my escort gti to a trader, i then bought another car from him about 5months after and he said your the guy who sold me the black escort gti? i said yeah and he said the head gasket went 1 week after they bought it
