Saph cossie fuel tank leaking.
it appears that after my blow out on the motorway last week ive developed a leaky fuel tank think its due to corrosion just wondered if anyone had any experience of changing one? how hard is it? and where to get a new one from? thanks in advance for your help guys and girls.

Ford will still sell you one - DO NOT be tempted to get a pattern one. Pattern ones are made from mild steel, while Ford ones are made from galvanised steel. Pattern ones aren't welded prpoerly, and don't have the swirlpot to combat the slosh effect.
Don't expect much change from 350 quid though. Don't forget to get new filler neck and sender unit gaskets.

I had the same problem with my tank, it rusted through where the two halves of the tank are welded together, paid about Ł190 for my tank from ford, Its a liberty that ford are bumping up the prices on whats left of the cosworth stock
give me a shout I may be able to do you a better price on a genuine tank from ford

There are good pattern ones as well as bad, the people that made these for ford sold the tooling/dies many moons ago no doubt, which is what the better pattern ones use, they will have MADE IN CANADA stamped into them, they have swirl pots also.
The oe ones were made by zeigler, who also made at the time many tanks for other cars including mercedes benz, that is the reason a original swirl pot has got a mercedes symbol on it!!
As a swap though very easy, get a new strap though, sometimes the captive nuts break in the chassis type parts but these are easy to get out and replace with still available from ford new ones.

Also, the sender hole hadn't sealed properly, so fuel slopped around and escaped through the gap in the seal, and burned off the thin layer of paint, leaving the bare metal on the top half of the tank free to corrode.
You might be lucky with yours - but personally, I wouldn't touch another pattern tank.

The sender on mine seems ok (not been for a good run though)
If i dont get on ill buy a ford one but cant fault Ł90 i dont think.
Do ford still sell them now?

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
i've fitted a few pattern tanks,
all the 1's i've fitted have swirral pots fitted(not off ebay),
so there is some good 1's out there, never had any probs with not lasting either,
but i would recommend a quick coat of paint before fitting to be safe,
they do suffer from the usual problem with pattern parts,
bolt holes dont line up perfect etc, but a little fiddle they always go,
but thats the same with and pattern panel etc not just fuel tanks
