Default Heater matrix.....

Its not a Ford but a old Jaguar but the priciple is the same! and the people on here are sooo nice!

Basically the heaters are only warm but warm up a tiny bit more at higher revs. the pipes going into and out of matrix are both red hot. Can the matrix be blocked but still both pipes be very hot? Is there a sure fire way to clear matrix?

Any advice?

Cheers all!

Hi fella, are you sure those pipes aren't going into the heater valve first,if it's fitted with one as these are big problems on cars in general, especially if it hasn't had the heaters on for a bit.

As for flushing through the matrix, remove both pipes from the opposite end to the matrix and run a hose through one pipe until all the rust and sludge comes out, then run it through the other pipe to "backflush" it,should see the same thing happen again.

Best cleaner I found for the cooling system/matrix is wynns cooling system flush, it says to leave at high idle for 10 mins or something with it in, I never bother.
I run around with it in for around 200 miles, the resultant sludge that forms in the expansion tank will need cleaning out, with screwdriver/stick etc and water, but removes every trace of crud, beware though that if there are any leaks that are sealed up with additives or crusty antifreeze will be found, and start leaking.
If that doesn't work then new matrix time, the matrix have got very small tubes, the heat travels along these by convection, rather than all the water going in passing through all the tubes, the matrix normally has a tank on the end with both pipes on same end, so water goes in and straight out rather than travelling through as such.
You can always have a copper matrix made for super duper heater, way better than aluminum.
