Forget the word trickle, a trickle charger damages batteries if left connected after charging is complete.
The RSC4 is NOT a trickle, it is a high frequency switched mode charger, that is safe to be left connected for 100 YEARS, it constantly exercises the battery, and is the very best way of charging and leaving connected 24/7 indefinitely.
The high frequency charge speeds up charging massively, even though a max of 4 amps it compares with 20amps of a normal charger.
If you upgrade to the RSC6 or RSC8 these have a conditioner function that revives old tired batteries seemingly dead with a good 80/90% success rate, to get the very last drop of performance from a battery.
Keep looking in LIDL as these have a conditioner charger for around £15 every so often, the high frequency charger will also charge from dead that a std charger won't touch.

sorry tabetha.. the screws on top of the battery you have to take off if your adding distilled water to top up, you normally take these off when charging

If you have the type that you can top up it is 100% safe to leave the caps ON when charging, the battery has a normal vent anyway, you won't get excess gassing with these chargers that you get with a normal charger or a trickle charger when it tries to pump in more juice even after it's fully charged.
We use one of the lidl cyclic conditioner chargers in the caravan that's on and plugged in 100% of the time it's hooked up to the mains, it revived the seemingly dead leisure battery in there.
No need to remove the vents at all.

Maybe just indicates a charge(in progress) situation ?, should show/mention in manual.
