Default What car for £8000 then??

Well i test drove an Alfa Brere and as lovely as it was to drive i have decided against having one now as dont really want trouble with it.

I have set myself a budget of £8000.
It will be my daily driver granted i only drive 15 miles per day.
Want a nice comfy driver as i sometimes have to do long motorway drives.
Not too fussed on make but want it to be reliable and not going to lose all its value overnight.

the age of the car you want is a huge factor, eg you could get an old 1998 porsche boxter for that, you could also get a year old fiesta.. see the problem?

personally I have a 2007 mondeo st tdci as a daily driver and it's fantastic

is what I'd recommend. Your budget isn't enough for an E46 M3, you don't need diesels. Any "normal" spec 8k BMW will be at an age (and also common enough) to be heavy on depreciation. LS1 economy on the motorway is excellent for what it is, and the seats are uber-comfortable.

Just to be a bit different from the norm. Plus to recommend anything else I'd either be saying add another 50% to your budget or spend half just over half of it. That fits nicely into the middle and can't see them depreciating into nothing, most of that is done already IMO.

hhhmmm. Not really looking at things like fiestas..but i understand what you mean.

Ideally i would want something that isnt too old..but if it was something a bit special like a Boxter then i would look at them too.

soooo many options i just need someone to tell me what to get lol

Epic cars Dan, drive like a fiesta when you are just pottering around but as lairy as a stage 3 saph when you want it to be.
Really reliable too, and cheap servicing as well.

No idea on insurance though, but doubt it will be good news

They're awesome. Handle surprisingly well for such a big (surprises most people how big they are when they see them up close) and basic (in engineering terms) car.

Seats are as comfortable as armchairs. Some of the trim is plasticky and a bit naff, but it was a cheap car for the performance with new, so it's never going to be as good as the BMW's at twice the price.

Engine is under no stress whatsoever most of the time, so feels good for a million miles (it's virtually idling at 60mph in 6th, lol) and accelerates pretty rapidly in any gear (certainly up to 5th, even uphill!).

Just effortless to change from dawdling to hammering along.

Simple, but awesome engine.

Nice cars, but I'd rather have the Monaro than a high-miler M3.

If it was a pristine low-mileage M3 then it might be different, but there will be a lot more expense and headache with a leggy M3.

E46 M3's at that price scream "NAIL" imho..............................

A leggy M3 wouldn't bother me as long as it had been well looked after. But the Monaro would make a brilliant cruiser, DO IT!! Plus M3's are common as dog shit these days!

Camden...you sure?

Monaro gets my vote as well as big German barge is all too common and Monaro will do what you want plus really can have fun with it.

Personal favourite car of mine you could consider if you want a bit of old school class is an E34 M5. But the Monaro would probably do everything and better.

If I was buying an 8K M3 I would sooner have one of the worlds best E36 and some change than the worlds worst E46

Go with the Alfa, the unreliable rep is undeserved and the Brera is stunning. You don't think a 100,000+ miles M3 is going to more reliable than a tidy Brera do you?

I do very much like and drive past the Desira Alfa dealership everyday and see them............and i dont think it would be more reliable at all..but just looking at other options really and asking the question.
as NEVER thought i could get a Monaro or even a Boxster for that sort of cash

The Brera does look epic IMO.

But, the Monaro isn't a bad shout at all considering that your 'commute' isn't anything major or fuel heavy... it'll be a riot over the winter too mate, arse right out.

Brera is so over hyped, cant see what top gear were on about with how amazingly awesome it looks TBH.
Ive nothing against alfas, being a previous owner myself, but they really arent as special as the TG trio seem to have convinced people they are.

Get the monaro Dan, its far more manly than some poofy alfa that woudlnt suit you

Hmmm, speaking personally, I can make my own mind up about what I do/don't find good looking without any help mate... and even if I was going to listen to anybody elses opinion, then it wouldn't be three over paid TV presenters that look the way they do!!

I can, it just oozes style that many cars in their price range just dont have, both inside and out. They look special IMO

But thats whats so great about cars, art, food, music, beer etc We can all have our favourites and they dont have to be the same. Gives us stuff to talk about

That M3 must be fake, quick email would confirm, looks very much like a CTR that I asked about a few years back... got told he was in Italy, he never used it and the car was sitting in storage. If I sent the money via Western Union then he would get the car sent to me, etc, etc.

If its genuine, then it would have been sold within a couple of hours and not lasted 3 days.
