practically no sutible engine has been mentioned for what your actually putting it in... an e21 bmw which is a nicely balanced, classic car.
id say stick close to its roots and fit an m3 s14 engine/12v straight six engine or maybe an all alloy 24v 2.8 engine.
forget all the suggestions of v8 turbos and 300zx engines. you would ruin the car

A good fun engine but bending the rules a bit would be the jag XKr/xjr supercharged v8.Always fancied putting one in a Capri with a smaller pulley etc, good bit of sideways fun there.you could pick an xjr up for about 2-3 grand now.

i did consider a engine from a different bmw but nothing took my fancy and i want to be individual, everyone who has a small engined bmw puts a bigger bmw engine in

968 Turbo-S Engine is >300hp and 3.0L displacement so plenty of room for tuning.

Stick an M42 engine from an E30/E36 318is and turbocharge that!
It's the end of the evolution (before the more restrictive M44) of the legendary family of BMW 4 pots that were churning out 500bhp+ in race form way back in the 1970's.
There's a Greek E36 318is turbo that was running nearly 600bhp on a virtually standard engine!
Would be more in keeping with the nature of the car.

Its only a 1.8 at the min and i cant see there is enough room for a turbo on the exhaust side of the engine as the steering rack and remote brake servo is in the way ![Rolling Eyes](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
and i want to be different and fit a completely different engine,
im tempted by a zetec turbo or nissan sr20det ?

+1
thats exactly what you should do![Clap](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/9c-clap.gif)
oh just read its the 1.8 lol
200sx engine has been done in a e30, zetec turbo might be a good option but its gonna need lots of bespoke parts= expensive
i would fit a 3.0 e36 m3 engine in there myself E21 is a light car and would be plenty fast enough with the M-power plus be much more saleable in the future
