With the mrs bashing tyres left rift and centre and the cheapest I can get continentals fitted etc fir the price is £85 a pop (196/45/16) what other tyres can I get for the old calamity doris who drives like a typical woman and don't low down for kerbs when she parks up ?

You have to remember that this is a town shopping trolley that has only seen the motorway once. The sidewalks are a bit stiff and there is no give in them, which makes it handle brilliantly but it's a bit of a pain when it comes to tackling speed mountians.

Anyone got any real world experince different makes?

If she is that bad, why not get some secondhand wheels and tyres from a breakers!

the conti's have got rim protectors, but she's bashing them off

so either a cheap set of tyres for all four so that it won't be as expensive or she gets to pay out every time she damages one

if it fails the mot she'll have to get a bus, and she won't like that

 

btw, it needs 16's to clear the brakes so dropping down a tyre size would make the ride even worse and i can't go any bigger as they are the biggest i can get in the arches

 

Confession time - i made a right prick of myself at the weekend. I went to fill up with petrol and all the pumps on my filler cap side were occupied but the filling station has hoses that are long enough to reach both sides of the car so i thought if i get close to the pump i can pull the hose over to the far side of my car. As i swung in to get close i hit the metal edge of the curb that the pump is mounted on and burst my tyre with a large bang and a sudden rush of escaping air and fucked my wheel trim. My stepsons girlfriend was working in the station at the time and she told me i was the second to do it that day and 2 others had mounted the curb but got away with it. Felt such a twat but never mind, i'm sure it gave all the other users something to talk about.
