Default Day time run lights

I've bought some DRLs to go on my Mk2 Focus. Says If I want to use them indipendant from my sidelights that I need a 12v ignition source with a switch in the cockpit. Has anybody got any ideas on how to wire these in, I'm and absolute beginner with automotive electrics so if anyone can help could you please explain in plain english. Thanks.....

Take it to someone who knows what they are doing.

If you start cutting and splicing into wires that are going to be live all the time you are running the car and you haven't got a clue what the fuck you are doing then you are probably going to fuck it up, at best resulting in a blown fuse, at worst resulting in an electrical fire which you WON'T be able to put out.

more light??
get your dips wired into your mains so when you go to main beam your dips come on also 100%>>>>> more light!!-(road rally trick)
if you dont when you go to main beam your dips drop off so your just driving on main beam(standard road use!!
another tip-
never eat anything more inteligent than yourself.

Are they RING drl's ?
If so are they just DRL or cruise lights, cruise lights have two brightness levels.
Anyway back to wiring, did no instructions come with them ?, easiest way to wire them is directly into your sidelight circuit, can use the two wires that go to each sidelight bulb for the earth and live of the DRL that side, the current the DRL use is so tiny the std wiring easily copes, if you wire the led the wrong way don't worry no damage occurs simply swap the + and - around as led's are polarity conscious unlike bulbs which work either way.
If they are cruise lights with two brightness levels then there will be a relay but need more info.

Yes Tabetha they are ring DRLs. Thanks for the advice. I want to have the DRLs seperate from side/dipped/main. Bought the haynes manual and spotted loads of potential wiring points. just needs 12v ignition, a switch and an earth so going to chase them with a trusty multimeter.
