Their work should be warranted. How many miles has it done since it was replaced?

Might aswell give it a go Kev.

Whats the worst that can happen, you get fobbed off.

Nothing lost, nothing gained and all that.

Hmm,tough one.a lot of garages are insured for this kind of thing so maybe worth a go asking, although personally I'd be less than happy about it if someone turned up at my unit three months after the job was done asking me for some sort of refund,I'd politely tell you to fuck off!!!

defo worth a try as all their work should be covered,
however as this was just changed and broke already,
chances are theres more to it,
prop why the original owner didnt take it back to them,
but worth a quick phone call to enquire

more the petrols that stretch,
saying that i have done a couple of diesels too,
i know they had a prob with the oil spray jet blocking up(same as the 2.2petrols)
might be whats caused it if its ran dry, but it must have got noisy 1st

If they remember the car they'll tell you where to go, any warranty whether implied or not is to the owner of the car, at the time, NOT subsequent owners.

Does seem odd the previous owner didn`t take it back to them?Unless they diagnosed h/g failiure, and attempted to get the work in to cover themselves after they knew the chain was broke? It does go on!!
