Not written a letter but have asked peeps in offices if they were giving away free stuff, for free, without being specific enough to actually know if they were either giving stuff away or if they were actually giving stuff away

Used to chance my luck in London quiet a bit and would always come away with somehing kr another

But asking some one specificly for something that they have thatypu need and not paging for it is a bit more lielybto end up with a no than a yes and then they'll know you want it and will bold onto it even tighter

VERY random and sounds plain weird

It's far easier to write a letter when you know what is involved. Depends what you're asking for and who from really.

Is the minted person a business owner? Local to the project? Would they have any remote interest or dealing in the project or anything like it?

Why has the minted person been singled out? Purely because they are minted?

It's a difficult one as it needs to be right.

its not as much the specifics as more how would you aim to word something like this ,

more like a business pitch

Don't make it sound like a begging letter, they get filed in the bin. Start it off by explaining what you are trying to achive and if the said business person, being specialised in that drips of businessing, would be able to help out on the actual physical side of explaining which sorts of machinery they would be best of using to do what they need to do.

For example, if you wanted to set up a knitting academy, is it worth paying for the top of the line needles individually or would there be a value pack with everything in them to start off with, and seeing as they were a knitting expert, in the follow up letter, you could ask them to recomend someone who might be able to offer them to you at cost or even if the knitting magnate is thinking of upgrading, you would happily take his old stock off his hands if it was still in good working order.

Etc.

You can't really say "yo, get your wallet out, you've pulled" can you

Write them often asking for free stuff, as I work closely with a local hospital radio. Had different things from T-shirts to electrical cables and other things. It's different for us though as we can offer them advertisements on the radio in return. It just depends what you are asking for. You need to approach as thought there's something in it for both of you.
