Religeous holidays - do they take the Mick?
Or should I say "do people take the piss"?
There are 2 Muslim chPs who work at our place and one of them tells us every year, without fail, that he's fastin etc when ramadan is about and he always tells us as soon as he can when he wants to take the end off as a holiday, no problem withthat.
The other fella however, came to me on teusday and said "I want Friday off, it's religious innit" and I quiet rightly said "fuck off, you need to give out 2 weeks notice and there are already 2 guys off so that'll be a no then"
So he's ranted and raved Nd all sorts and e entually got a route with a 2pm finish, so what's he done? That's right, done some of it and aborted the rest and fucked off home "because I have to take it as a religeousbholiday innit to meet up with my family and shit"
Absolutly takes the fucking piss, yet the company won't do anything about it
as a Sikh I could take 22 days holiday a year and claim it to be relegious but I don't because they get celebrated at the weekend or in the evening after work or early in the morning before I come to work, simples, and it doesn't affect my working day.
So how many of you have got these sorts of slicing chancers at work
? Bet half them cookers didn't turn up to work today either as I k ow that the Muslim parents have kept most of their kids off school today because ofthe same reasonbwhich is fair enough, but coming in 2 days before and suddenly yelling everyone he's having thr day off, fuck that shit.
And before the likes of Ishtar start with the whole anti Muslim September 11th crap, this post is about people who take religious days of as and when it shits them.

what?
My mrs is at work today and took in cakes and sweets for the rest of the office. She made no mention of taking the day off. A couple of the guys here that I know were fasting aren't in but that will certainly have been taken as holiday.
As far as the short notice bit goes, I've been told (not sure how right it is) that because the end fo the fast is determined by the moon, you don't actually know which day it will be (out of a couple) until quite close to the actual event.

The guy who normally takes it off told me about 3 weeks ago, so you would ha e thought that the other chap would have known Then as well, or at least been aware that he was going to need a day off and warned someone it was going to be in thenext few weeks.
I got no problem with people taking time off if they need to, ut last minute is a taking the piss in my book, he would have been better off taking the day off sick, but then be would have had to find some way to get the van in so that someone else could use it to cover his shift.

20K+ Super Poster.
lots of the guys here are muslim and we are currently understaffed with them bein off.
no problem with that at all, you know why...
they gave a shitload of notice!
ramadan isnt something thats suddenly announced 3 days before!
give notice, get leave... SIMPLES, asking a few days before and using that as an excuse is not acceptable.
also leaving work without leave on purpose should surely be a disciplinary offence?! check your policies!

I'm going to be discussing it with someone next week so hopefully things will get resolved, but at our place it's really strange as the guys you would expect to get fired never get even the whisper of discilpinary action and yet the guys who do their best and follow the rules and all that get properly fucked over if they make even the smallest of errors
I'd be looking at a bus lane fine now as the company are adamant that ibwas driving the hire van at the time the offence took place, even though I was 50 miles away in a different van waiting for some lazy fucker to start work
And I'm not even going to mention the time they gave the wrong guy a speeding fine and points, and then they wouldn't send the paperwork with the real offenders details on
