Default Your suggestions regarding my fuel tank please!

On the Gartrac the spare wheel well is no more as it has been removed and the boot floor is flat. Underneath this sits the fuel tank which is tiny and holds approx 5 gallons! With it running greys this means re-fueling every 80 miles or so which is a pain
I was thinking of fitting a tank in the boot of some sort? and whilst i'm at it adding a swirl pot set up!
What are my options regarding size etc..for fitting in there and who would be the people to contact for the tank???
Cheers Spadge....

The tank on the car is already underneath and is as big as there is room for!
I'm not bothered about boot space so i'll call pro-alloy and see what they can do for in the boot

Spadge you have hundreds of options on this!

Pro-Alloy will knock you something up, as would Lee@Fusion, any of the old-skool escort specialists will sell you alloy tanks (R.A.C.E in Stoke for example)

Personally I am also considering a Jaz fuel cell for the Mk1, I think you can find them in Demon Tweeks or Rally Design. They look super bling though, and are used by lots of pros!

some info from the site..

Pro tank PT 800

The pro tank is a generic fuel tank which is mounted to the vehicle via two stainless steel straps for ease of fitment.

The fuel pick - up, return and breather are mounted in a plate on the top of the tank for your convenience.

Our tanks are detailed to accept a VDO type sender unit (which can be supplied) or can utilise our dip-stick level indicator.

All pro tanks are fitted as standard with safety foam, Aero 400 flush filler cap, rubber spill tray, breather / rollover valve and -6 pick-up & return fittings. 200mm high x 340mm wide x 800mm long, capacity 54 litres.

ALLOY MOUNT TRAY NOT INCLUDED

How does the fuel get to the pump if the pick-up is on top of the tank on a gravity fed system?

Spadge,

Pro-alloy's the way to go.

As soon as Bedford is out the way, I'll get mine up there for a similar setup to Lee/Dan's..............

jaz tanks are shite , cost me two 225l/ph pumps because of teh foam in them , pumps sucked it out , hence i would NEVER EVER have another foam filled fuel tank

i wont quote the book but , fuel tanks and cells have to be covered basically , so a single skinned fuel tank or filler tube cannot be inside the car.

i know this doesnt matter to spadges fuel tank job , but im just thinking for things like rally cars / circuit cars , and really it should apply to track days if you ask me !!!

I reckon track days will start to be more regulated, as people's "track cars" become more like competition spec cars.

Unfortunately, it's gonna take one death at a track day before something happens.

People should know better really.......... fookin subs in the boot and all sorts

Mark,

It would need a fire proof bulk head, a drip tray which vents to outside, and breather for filling via the remote filler. Apart from that it meets all other rules. (roll over valves etc)

And I agree with every other comment about Jaz.

If were talking motorsport, then the proper stuff like the premier bag tanks have a limited life and are dated and have to be changed when its life span runs out too.

All this shouldn't apply to spadge. If he felt safe he could fit that behind him and get away with it for the time being on track days - but how long for is anyones guess at the moment

you read too much m8 !!!

the tank can be covered , i.e double skinned instead of an actual bulkhead !! , and iff your filler is external ( which i would very strongly recommend) then no drip tray is required

I have the blur book in the toilet all the time just in case we run out of loo paper

And the tank you describe above is exactly the way mine is, so yes I know about that option

When you help build cars all year round it actually becomes second knowledge. I have even quoted regulation numbers to scruitineers in the past
