Seizing up engines for the government...
The yanks have apparently reached a new level of stupidity.
Like the UK, they introduced a scrappage scheme in 2009. If you scrapped your old banger and bought a new one, you got 4500$ from the government.
However, since politicians were worried that the old cars might not really end up in a shredder, they introduced a guide line for dealers/scrappers on how to destroy every single engine.
Basically it said: Drain the oil, fill in sodium silicate and run the engine till it seizes up.
Youtube is full of videos about it, just type "Cash For Clunker" in the search.
