mk4 golf opinions? *updated*
Just been offered a 1998 4 door mk4 Golf 1600 for £800 off a mate, its got decent wheels and newish tyres, full powerflow cat back, GTi recaro seats, just had a new gearbox and top end rebuild and showing 113k
It needs a sensor on the box to make the speedo work, a reverse light switch and the central locking dont work off the drivers door, other than that its a nice clean motor.
Anyone had one of these?
Anything to look for?

Sounds good for the money
Arb/wishbone & rear beam bushes are worth checking.
They do a have a few common faults with electrics. Most are a easy fix and theres lots of info on -

As shortie has said, mainly just bushes on them
Take a test drive and listen for knocking from the back as the beam bushes are very commen to let go, i managed to do mine myself in about a hour and a half and only cost about £15 for some new bushes off ebay.
My bro has a 1.6 and other than water temp sensor (£30+vat) and a lambda sensor it has been fault free.
Also if you want to lower it look on ebay for JOM Coilovers, full set for £170 delivered .
I run these on my Mk4 and they are very good for the money.

Very good for the cash but budget on changing the exhaust for something more usefull, like one made of hosepipe or chocolate even. Stock exhaust will not only perform better (I would almost guarantee) but will make it easier to sell the car on.
