Default One for the e46 M3 owners (I bought one!)

Im getting an E46 M3 vert in a few weeks and im desperatly deciding what to do with my cossie..

If i can sell the cossie i can pretty much buy the M3 outright.

but if i keep the cossie i'll need to finance most of the M3 low amount over 3 years.

I love my cossie and everything about it, so wanna keep it as a weekend & track toy, but worried when i get the M3 it will be everything and more and cossie will get shelved wishing i sold it before taking M3 mostly on finance.

Who here sold a cossie to go e46 M3 and who here kept their cossie aswell?

bearing in mind if i sold the cos i would still have a cheap rs turbo project or summin to keep me sane.
at the moment im thinking fuck it life is short and i shoud keep them both

Sack off the Cossie, buy the M3 outright, have zero debt and never look back.

I did I sold my last escos for an e46 m3 cabrio. If Iam being honist It was a fantastic car and I would have another one but the silly tax groups pissed me of so I sold it and brought anther escos. All I can say is they are both great cars but in there own ways. Make sure you go for a manual though.

Sean - nice pair

turbo cat - Yeh i currently run a diesel for everyday so i know servicing and taxing will be a shock but hey ho. yeh i heard the smg box's are still just as problematic as the e36 ones im so def going for a manual. even if the exhuast sound of downshifting via paddle shift sounds amazing

mat and grant - yeh i dont like the idea of debt but it would only be Ł200 or less a month over a few years. im just about to move into a shared house near work my boss rents for Ł275 all in a month meaning no more 130mile a day commuting. so my monthly overheads are real low

I have an E46 M3 and I also had a stage 3 2 wheel drive sapph and although the sapph was/felt faster in a straight line I just didn't use it or want to use it after buying the M3 so I sold it.

You're doing the right thing getting the manual, I'm on the cutters board and the SMG's are failing far too much for my liking. I broke my left ankle a couple of months ago and I still don't regret buying the manual even though I still can't really drive it far

smg's drive far far better imo and seem to be quicker, or at least the ones i test drove certainly felt quicker than the manuals. Also i found the cabbys drove absolutly shite compared to the coupe, thats why i ended up with a smg coupe but will be selling that shortly and getting myself a cheap runabout cause it just sits there doing nothing most of the year while i'm away working

Couldnt agrre more grant.

I sold my cossie for a bike then bought my m3, never a day goes by that i ask my self, why oh why did i waste all that cash on an old ford sierra.

M3`s are a different league to cossies and offer so much more, cossies are quicker in straight lines etc but its the all round package you get from the bm that sells it

I'm in the same boat as i really want a E46 in Imola red. Whether i get one soon is a grey area really as i would have had the cossie ten years in January.... I see one on M3cutters and it was simply stunning! But Imola is quite a rare colour so when a nice one does come up it's usually quite pricey...

Imola Red would be my first choice of colour for an E46 M3... I absolutely love the way they look and the fact that they look a bit different to the 'normal' Silver/Carbon/Silver Grey cars that seem to be around.

And you have to look at the other side

What will the cossie cost in 5 years compared to the M3 ? Bm will be basic servicing no doubt rather than bottom end rebuilds/ turbos/ box etc etc etc

Run the M3 and put away every so often what a cossie would cost in repairs and you will have a nice some of cash to upgrade to a newer car than the M3 in a few years time

Two totally different cars IMHO, I loved my mates E46 m3 vert when I drove it. But a good Cossie is just old school no driver aids boost in the back , the whole point of it is it's NOT refined, quiet, easy to drive etc..

The amount of people who have gone full circle from selling thier Cossie, to an Evo, then M3/5, then decide they really want another Cossie speaks for itself.

As an everyday car the M3 wins hands down, but for a toy a Cossie is hard to beat, if you can keep both I would, but if the Cos isn't highly modded sell up, you can always buy another one at a later stage.

A typical blinkered ford fan comment

Once you`ve owned both and spent your hard earned cash you will re-think that comment mate

Depends what you want, if you have cash to throw away and think nothing of it cossies are great, if you have a bit of savvy you will have the m3 and save a pocket full of cash

Yea, looking at that link I'm 100% sure that Imola is my fav colour on an E46 and that CSL wheels are a must-fit item on them too. I think that with a CSL front bumper fitted, possibly a bootlid too? ...for me that car would be perfect visually.

I've had two Escort Cosworths and now I've got an M3. So not really Cossie every time. I couldn't go back to one now.

I fucking LOVE my M3

Was getting a bit bored of it but...

I gave it a right kicking last night and it just loved it! Silver grey, eibach springs, AP's all round and genuine CSL alloys with 275 rears (I think)

TC off, SMG speed 6 on. All you gimps that slag of SMG.. have you driven both?!? SMG is FAAR superior (and yes ive replaced my SMG pump once)

So im going to keep it as a run around and supercharge it.

Will prob get a 997 or an RS4 as the 'nice' car

Drove my E46 M3 convertable for the second time ever yesterday since I bought it a month ago!

LOVED IT! UBER UBER comfy. SMG box is great.

Total bargain. Has 35k on clock but feels very fresh.

Feels bit slow down low though but gets faster as speeds increase and weight it less of an issue.

oh and the raspy exhaust is NASTY. hated that on my first one years ago... still hate it now!

mine has CSL wheels. look great. Original 19's are bit dated now I think.

are you running it on super and with sport mode on?

Ive had to run it on normal unleaded on a few occasions and found the car quite slow lower down.

Drained and then filled with super.. sport mode on (throttle response only I know) and it was MUCH better. Catch it in the wrong gear/revs and it does take a while to pick up.. but you have been driving a 430 / 996 turbo so must feel a tad slow!

The M3 loves the 100 - 140 though! keep pusjing it if you have big enough balls and you will see a few mm over 170 on the speedo. Not bad for a paltry 340 hp!

Coupe???? ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

BORING!

all about drop tops!

if you want a coupe then the only reason would be for a trackcar as ultimately they handle much better/stiffer and are safer.

But then... just get proper CSL!

Coupes are poo.

wind in the hair, sun on your face.... perfect.

or blasting down some lanes late at night blowing away the cobwebs!

I do like bmw.s there a nice car but i would rather have a well speced saff. Cossies really hold there money. Cossies always get slated for been shit. They are just an old car with old technology. Mine is spot on starts first time everytime.

i personally love your cossie. my mate owned it for five years, for the last three years, i was the only person who drove it as he lost his licence, and once or twice a month i would take it out for a drive to keep it running rite. i genuinely miss that car lol.

Thanks fiddy. I just think if both cars drove down the street i think the cossies would get more noticed than the bmw.
