Got a cheap ST205 for my missus earlier in the year, and she wants to change it, as she needs something more economical now. i know i can have it for about 1k, as thats all it owes her.
just wondering if anyone had any opinions on how they fared as track/hillclimb/sprint cars, with suitable modification?
gotta be a better opition that using the cossy!

I had a couple and I loved the attention that my WRC Castrol Rep got, plus the noise off the screamer pipe was epic... still regret not tracking that car. Here is a (shit) pic of it.

The engines are really reliable if looked after... 300bhp is the limit without changing turbos, aftermarket ecu, etc etc. To get to the 300bhp area, the car needs a de-cat exhaust, filter and a boost controller set to 1.15-1.2bar peak.
Expensive things to consider are cambelt needing changed, brakes are BIG as standard so check they're in good nick, clutches are known to go once up around 300bhp and used properly... and the big one is the lower arms and mounts, known as the Figure 8 links, you wont get much change from 500 note for the parts alone.
On the suspension subject, replacement kits are pricey for decent stuff because of the design of the ST205 suspension... I remember pricing Tein stuff from Nengun a few years back and IIRC it was cŁ2k when all the others, even with Skyline tax, were about Ł900-Ł1000.
They are also heavy cars, however, I'm sure there is a fair bit of weight to be lost on bits that aren't needed.
Cheers,
Grant

cheers grant.
we got it cheap because the clutch was gone, so i fixed that. it has had one bottom arm, but i think the other needs doing now. just figured, once striped, it would make a good alternative to a subaru

Had a white one for 2 years or so as a fresh import. Was running around 350bhp with a gt28 garrett, still on the standard engine internals.
Lower arms and bits are now like 500per side so budget for that.
Put a front mount and mapable ecu on it also as the top mount (failure box) is pants for over 300bhp and the standerd ecu cannot be tuned.
Any more questions send me a message or something. Engines are now comming down also so even if the rings go (common problem) you can put a new one in.
Loads of information on gt4oc.net
