At work, when some weegie delivery guy walked into the warehouse and said he thought the world was going mental cause someone was flying planes into the WTC. Always remember getting a load of calls and texts asking if I'd heard about what had happened and one of my friends recorded various news footage and a couple of us went round to watch it 'unfold' as we had missed it through working.

I was working in a call centre and I've never heard the phones go that quiet. We had to find out what we could on the Internet as we had no tv.
Added: I told my 10 year old to put that programme on channel 4 on and had to explain to him what happened, etc as he was only 1 when this happened.

Was working on the drive on my RS turbo listening to Radio 1 when all of a sudden Chris Moyles (who was on the afternoon then) got all serious and the program was taken over by news bulletins about it.

When first plane hit I was at the foot of the first tower ready to go and have breakfast in the revolving restaurant at the top.
Was a truely horrifying and scary time, but the warmth of the americans was immense.
Still have thoughts and dreams of it to this day, will never forget what I saw that day.
The emergency services were all heroes, all the restaurants let them eat for free as they all worked non stop for days, not even going home, just wanted to continue to help.
Will stay with me forever.

One of the only times id seen him almost in tears. Was a sad day

I was on a landing craft on HMS FEARLESS about to go on an exercise with turkish marines in turkey. We heard what was going on, then got given the go ahead and carried on. Didnt see any of the TV footage for another few weeks until i had left the ship. Listened to bits on the radio on the LCVP though.
was wierd seeing the photos in papers in following weeks and eventually on tv. Didnt seem that real.
what were you upto in iraq then?? hang over from the bombings and action earlier in the year to take out the air defences???

They started to evacuate.... and were told to go BACK to their desks!!!
Thankfully almost everyone ignored this and my company only lost one person that day.
we did however loose ALL of our systems. Everything we had was in tower 1... and all the back up systems were in Tower 2! That now seems kind of a silly thing to do now in hindsight. BUT no one EVER EVER thought anything like this would ever happen!

I was 16 and sat and home waiting to hear when I could start college. Had just watched the 1 o'clock news and was waiting for Neighbours to start when it unfolded on TV. Saw the 2nd plane go through the tower live on BBC1. Unreal day. Also, as cheesey as it sounds the world has been the same since.

Quite simply, I was there...no bull, was there on holiday for a week, got stuck there for 3 weeks.

I had just finished playing footy, came home to watch neighbours (some fit birds in it back then ) just missed the first plane going in, but clocked the second.
We will never know the truth behind it, which is very sad.

Just remember seeing it on the news & thinking holy fuck! very sad r.i.p. I have been to the twin towers site 3 times each time a year apart the work they are doing there is fantastic although when your standing there looking at it , its hard to take in what actually happened that day the size of the place isnt that big for the height of the towers it amazes me how they stood up without planes hitting them.

I was working in a customer facing car insurance office so no internet, no mobile phones on, no radio etc, a customer (a famous sports person who's name completely escapes me now) walked in the office and said 'you won't believe this, two planes have just flown into the twin towers in new york'! Obviously we had absolutely no idea so as he was explaining it we all just sat there completely dumbfounded! Still blows my mind when you see the footage of it happening. All those people on the planes dying as fast as you can click your fingers. Madness.
