question for chip or tabetha
others may be able to help also but there posts on technical things are always a good read.
question is my father in law recently had his sapph set up and was told it was set at 438bhp and on a higher boost setting was 480bhp. he said he was told that the 2nd boost level could be acheived when you put a swith on the earth wire coming out the amel valve?? so taking the earth out of the amel? has he got it wrong. he is convinced that is what they said.

Well as Chip and Tabetha are not available at this time ......
The AMAL valve is earth switched by the ECU on pin 16.
Cut the wire to Pin 16 and add a switch to earth and the wire that dissapears off into the loom.
Depending on the car, the AMAL valve positive wont be live until the engine is running.
So test by starting the engine on idle and operating the new switch and you should hear the valve click.

The amal earth as said is switched by the ECU, there is a mod thats known as "Two stage boost" (Merely it's on/off) you put a switch in the said pin 16 earth. When the switch is closed full boost for the setup will run.
With the switch open the amal valve has no power and so you run lower boost as the boost is sent from the compressor housing straight to the actuator as the valve is closed and so no boost can bleed off.
The amal along with ISCV is powered from the fuel pump relay and so it should click when the ignition is switched on AS long as the pump primes. With the engine running it should click when disconnect/connected.
