Default Mondeo TDCi oil filters

Do they look like little air filters ?!

Went in yesterday to buy one from Ford and that's what they gave me - I laughed and gave it back but the guy showed me a picture of the blow up diagram and that appears to be it ! Is this right ? How does it work and how dos the oil actually get 'filtered' ? How do I actually change it ?

Ta !

Yes they are a cartridge type filter. You remove the plastic filter housing, directly under the engine at the front. You will need a 36 mm spanner or socket, I think haven't done one for ages!

Cheers chaps - take it that seeing as it's an air filter type thing it runs 'dry' so when I take it out oil won't pee everywhere ?

it's a messy job BUT there is a little screw in the middle of the plastic cap (at least on the petrol models in any case) that you undo to get the old oil out

then you need to use the proper removal tool to release the plastic bit at the bottom and the paper filter will come out with it

you should have got both oil seals with the filter yes?

little green one and a bigger black one

An oil filter that is metal screws onto the engine somewhere. The paper ones simply do away with the metal outer part so imagine you unscrewing the end of the filter and removing and replacing just the filtery bit on it's own

All down to recycling, its a lot easier to dispose of/recycle contaminated paper than it is a lump of metal. 99% of new cars have the paper filters!

slightly off topic, would the wrong spec of oil cause the oil pressure light to illuminate, then once it passes 1k rpm, it will go out, only to return again after revs drop to idle speed.
I changed the oil today and although it is 5w/30 it isn't ford spec'd/approved. I didnt think it would have made any difference.

I changed the oil today and oil level is fine, there are no abnormal noises, no under preformance from the engine either, just the oil pressure light issue

Angry

5w 30 is 5w 30 no matter where you buy it. It won't be the cause of the oil light going on. Does the car have any other symptoms? What's the mileage? Did the light come on after the oil change?

Edit: don't know why there's an angry face at the top of my post

thats what I thought. the only other problem that I ahve is that after getting an injector seal done a couple of weeks ago, I am going through diesel like it is going out of fashion due to a leak near the injectors.
There is a pool of diesel sitting at the injectors.
other than that there are no other symptoms at all with the engine eg, smoke, noises etc.
It still ticks over and drives wothout any issues.

Silly question, but are you 100% sure you put the right amount of oil in?

A leaky seal wouldn't cause the car to use loads of diesel really, unless it's squirting out!

Modern TDCi engine are very good at compensating for problems, and can appear to drive normally when something's up. The old oil didn't smell of diesel did it?

bought a 5l can of oil, book says to use 3.8l with filter change, I have just over 1l left in the oil can.

It must be squirting out somwhere, I am onto 2 bar of diesel on the fuel guage and have covered approx 315 miles, and that is sitting mainly around 55-60mph.
I took off the airbox and looked down onto the top of where the injectors sit and can see a good 5mm thick puddle oil fuel from the drivers side injector, gradually getting less as it goes over the the passenger side It is dripping all down the back of the engine and covering the gearbox and onto the ground.

typical, things like this happens when you are due to sell the bloody thing!!
