Mondeo TDCi oil filters
Do they look like little air filters ?!
Went in yesterday to buy one from Ford and that's what they gave me - I laughed and gave it back but the guy showed me a picture of the blow up diagram and that appears to be it ! Is this right ? How does it work and how dos the oil actually get 'filtered' ? How do I actually change it ?
Ta !

Yes they are a cartridge type filter. You remove the plastic filter housing, directly under the engine at the front. You will need a 36 mm spanner or socket, I think haven't done one for ages!

no it wont run dry and the filter housing will be filled with oil.crack it off and let it drain for a bit.its gonna get messy when u take it off though lol

it's a messy job BUT there is a little screw in the middle of the plastic cap (at least on the petrol models in any case) that you undo to get the old oil out
then you need to use the proper removal tool to release the plastic bit at the bottom and the paper filter will come out with it
you should have got both oil seals with the filter yes?
little green one and a bigger black one

slightly off topic, would the wrong spec of oil cause the oil pressure light to illuminate, then once it passes 1k rpm, it will go out, only to return again after revs drop to idle speed.
I changed the oil today and although it is 5w/30 it isn't ford spec'd/approved. I didnt think it would have made any difference.

5w 30 is 5w 30 no matter where you buy it. It won't be the cause of the oil light going on. Does the car have any other symptoms? What's the mileage? Did the light come on after the oil change?
Edit: don't know why there's an angry face at the top of my post

There is a pool of diesel sitting at the injectors.
other than that there are no other symptoms at all with the engine eg, smoke, noises etc.
It still ticks over and drives wothout any issues.

Silly question, but are you 100% sure you put the right amount of oil in?
A leaky seal wouldn't cause the car to use loads of diesel really, unless it's squirting out!
Modern TDCi engine are very good at compensating for problems, and can appear to drive normally when something's up. The old oil didn't smell of diesel did it?

It must be squirting out somwhere, I am onto 2 bar of diesel on the fuel guage and have covered approx 315 miles, and that is sitting mainly around 55-60mph.
I took off the airbox and looked down onto the top of where the injectors sit and can see a good 5mm thick puddle oil fuel from the drivers side injector, gradually getting less as it goes over the the passenger side It is dripping all down the back of the engine and covering the gearbox and onto the ground.
typical, things like this happens when you are due to sell the bloody thing!!
