What wheels did he used to have on it? Seen many pics, but can't quite make out what they are. Can anybody shed some light onto this?

As others have said, very hyped, but never really did anything.

I remember it from MANY years ago, at National Day (I think), long before it was the car we knew, doing sprints and was quite rude then, but never saw it lay down any times after it 'evolved'.

 

....oh, and as for cars on RS-GT wheels, there was a black S2 on these wheels, belonged to 'Stoo' I believe, was nicer looking IMO.

Big power by standards back then but like a lot of RST's had the suspension & wheel setup so it looked mean rather than set up so it launched properly. Low profile 18's and slammed to the ground = wheelspin!

remember talking to james years ago
he ran it at brunters and it hit the limiter half way up the straight

he said it was just to fast for the road so broke it up

now he has a e 46 m3

5th..... I was there it was Escorts vs Fiestas..... Box was geared to do summit like 130 on limiter in 5th gear..... Shame it never got 100% finished, I had the job of putting it together in it's final guise and a few months later stripping it for spares

 

Didn't realise it had a short ratio box. Was it a quaife straight cut then?

Yes was a Quaife..... pretty sure it came from 1 of JamSports cars...(minds a bit hazy I broke the car in about 2004/5 sort of time).

all i can say is

anyone who says that car wasnt stupidly fast never saw it go

bar far the fastest car of its time (fwd anyway)

and if he kept with it and still had it today would be untouchable

v man - I'm not denying it was a quick car, but that 130mph 'box would have made it seem even quicker than it actually was. I ran an S1 'box in mine for a little while and I could thump the 5th gear limiter so fast it was unreal, like 3/4 mile or something and would be wheel-spinning in practically every gear.

An RST can be perceived as being very fast at anything beyond a genuine 250bhp. Even if it were high 300's BHP, there must have been other reasons for it coming apart when it did, before laying any times down anywhere. I don't believe it came apart because it was too fast.
