Default carpenter/builder types

i'm after them self tapping type screws that are black, and have a bit more of a point on them

i'm sure you know which ones i mean, they've got a different sort of cross slot as well at the top, they are tighter than normal wood screws

are they plasterboard screws?

need to go and get 1 or 2 tomorrow to replace a few that i've "lost" when i 've been taking things apart so need to get the right ones so they'll look right

but can't remember what they'd be called and google is being a twat about showing pictures

one more thing, when putting in flooring, is there a thing to stop bugs and flies and shit like that coming through?
and mice and rats and shit from chewing through?

looking at doing it once so if there is something specifically for it rather than having to lay down loads of metal plates

http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Scre.../sd3165/p66702

these ones look like what i've got, we've got wooden battons in the kitchen and the units have been fixed to them and to each other to stop them falling over, for want of a better word, and i've moved stuff about as we had to do some plastering behind and now we've obviously lost the screws

but i only need about 5 at the most, so don't really want to shell out on thousands

The plasterboard screws are pence so only really come in bulk. Best off going to wicks or somewhere and seeing if you can buy a few. You will proberally pay the same amount though.

Not sure what you mean about the flooring? Is this is a loft? over a screeded floor?

we've got an old house and underneath the floorboards there is about a 2 foot gap where the joists span the floor, then the floorboards go in etc and we've had instnaces of mice getting in through the air bricks and chewing up the cables that go under the floor

only really find out it's a mouse when the leccy pops and then we find a fried rodent but we also had a few brave buggers a few years ago who found a way through where the pipes come through the floor around the floorboards where they've threaded the electricity to the meter and run the gas and water pipes etc so i just want something that i can put down to keep everything out before i stick some of the spare laminate flooring down around the place to tidy it up under the stairs

wire wool is about the only thing that will stop them, they wont eat through it.

ok, should have taken pics but it was dark and dingy and here's no flash on the iphone so:

what we did was rip up ALL the floorboards that were close to where we needed to secure

we then built up pillars of bricks to go around all the pipework and electrics, but we lagged them with that pipe lagging stuff you put on water pipes first, and then wrapped a few sheets of plastic around them, before filling the gaps up with wire wool

then we put the floorboards down back were they were

then we put another set of tongue and groove boards on top of these boards

and then another lot on top of those to make the level back up to the correct height to cover all the pipes that were all over the place

the only major problem was the stop cock for the gas, which is actually at the same level as the original floor, so we left that alone for the time being

but other than that, it's actually turned out to be a good days work
