Default Rub Strips.

Hello,

What it is i want to remove my rub strips off the side of my fiesta mk5.
I decided to take the bit off around the side repeaters to see what i am working with, i washed down where the rub strip had been removed glue etc but its asif the car has had a paint job and not been painted under the strips so you can see the edge of the paint where the rub strip has been removed.

Can any body shop just patch up or would i have to have all the panels repainted?

Can get a picture if it will help.

Thanks.

you can use fishing wie or welding wire and use it like a cheese wire ,and i would imagine a paint shop could sort out this without painting the whole panel they may just blend the paint in

I was hoping you would say that don't fancy having to get a whole new paint job as it has nice body work!

Don't know of any good body shops around my end will just have to ring around.

Thanks for your reply.

Rang a body shop they said as its a silver car is hard to find the same match so you would have to respray each panel, £400+VAT

Sound about right?

Silver is notoriously hard to match, but that bodyshop is taking the piss!
A decent place should just be able to blend the paint in, which would be nowhere near £400 lol, tell em to get stuffed.

Its a sweet looking car.

Off to a body shop tomorrow for them to have alook and then see what stupid price they come out with, but the gloss black side strips are growing on me. You have any idea how hard it is to smooth and paint them yourself?

It's not hard, I'm doing my front and back ones gloss black soon (not got side strips) It just takes time, lots of sanding involved to get it right.

Bloody cheap! especially for silver!

You will deed to plastic prime the mouldings then some 2k primer with plastisizer in to rid of the grain and make smooth then top coat with plastisizer in.

Not simple.

I was saying that having to respray most of the side was taking the piss
mine have been taken off and didn't need a full respray lol.
