VAG 1.8t owners
Right now I know this will sound a bit backwards to a lot of people.
My current car is getting a bit extreme for every day road use, and I want to start keeping the miles down.
I'm considering a 1.8t Audi A4 (around 2002 if it matters)
I've got quite a lot of VAG experience and I know about tuning/faults etc
What I want to know is, can I average 35mpg?
I know I can go for a diesel and get a steady 45mpg all day long (I own a vag diesel just now) but diesels arent as available and you can get some right deals on petrol cars at the mo.
I do 70-80 mile a day commute and i'd use it the odd time at weekends.
So IMO 35mpg is the magic number. I'm a fairly steady driver when i'm commuting which will help. But I don;t want to constantly have to be thinking about fuel economy.
So is 35mpg average a reality?

We have done a fair few in here the oil pick up blocks causing low oil light to come on you need to take the sump off & replace the strainer even with the strainer clean you put a torch at the end the light still isnt great. Around 13 quid for a strainer we done a audi last week with the 1.8t engine with this fault

From a full tank, my anniversary 1.8T (180bhp) managed combined figures between 32-34MPG commutting to and from work; along with weekend town driving. On a single trip to work along the motorway on some mornings I often achieved 42MPG.

I've been offered a 52 plate A4 with 40k on the clock and FSH for £600.
And you;re trying to talk me into a £4k 300bhp taxi lol
He'd need to move £3k on the price before I;d be interested

I drive my chipped A4 T Sport like a hooligan and always get 28mpg so 35mpg driving normally should be a doddle. Been a bit more sedate since the last fill up and have done 400 miles on my last tank and the trip says I still have 85 miles left
