Default mpg question

i've got a computer widget that tells me, on the iphone, how much each mile costs per gallon

and one of the numbers equates to the gallons used per mile

this figure is currently at 0.227 with the best i've got being a 0.046

so can one of you clever bods work out that to an actual mpg figure?

it's too complicated for me to work out without spending hours drawing random sums that don't work and then giving up so i just need to know what each one is

obviously one is about 5 times better/worse than the other but how much worse, better is it?

I think what you need the reciprocal (1/n) of the numbers stated,
so 1mile/0.227gallons = 4.4mpg
1mile/0.046 = 21.7mpg

*disclaimer - I think this is right, however, it mat be wrong.

miles/gallon is the inverse of gallons/mile so just divide 1 by the number.

0.046 gallons/mile is (1/0.046) = 21.7mpg

0.227 gallons/mile is (1/0.227) = 4.405 mpg

I suspect in apples usual crap fashion however that may be US gallons so you can multiply both of those by 1.2.

Still seems VERY low to me

logworks is the aps name
it's from innovate soemthing or other
you are supposed to use it with a widget you stick into the obd port to give you stuff but it works for the basics without it
and it's free

was an artilce about it inperformance ford and it's supposed to be a rival, or sorts, to the vi performance moniter from what i can make out

well, normally, for about £30 worth of fuel the car does about 160 miles in a month
but the other day when i took it to combe, it did over 200 miles for 17 litres so how does that work out?

cost per litre is about the £1.18 mark give or take any fluctuations so can the "real world" figure it out better?

normally it does roughly 28 mpg from them figures
the motorway trip thought saw it doing over 53 mpg

so does this mean the computer is wrong then?
