Default 2002 transit side door problem

I've put a deposit down on a transit, and the guy knocked me £50 off as the side door wouldn't open. What is the cure for this problem, and is £50 enough to fix it?

Possibly snapped the cable between the pull and lock mech.you may find it's not closing right so somebody shut it and tried leaving it like that, won't be nothing major though.

Ok, bought the van today, took the door card off and noticed the lock wasn't making a noise when the other locks were working. Turns out it was the usual ford dirty contact problem. Cleaned up and all sorted! Well worth getting £50 knocked off! Pmsl!

Its quite a rare swb rwd with the 125 engine, drives well for its 248,000 miles.. It has an oil leak from somewhere round the waterpump though. I can't suss it out.
