Shortterm provision of extra finances is a useful buffer to any country with a MAJOR crisis.
We are lucky in this country we never need such things, as our weather is so mild by comparison.

No but it'll go someway towards helping the 1.4 million who have lost their homes, and replacing some of the 70% of the countries livestock that's been lost.

It's a drop in the ocean to our country but if it helps some families escape from a life of utter misery, famine, disease and starvation then I'm all for it - regardless of what country it's going to.

I would say that it is invetiable that somehow some of it will, through stolen aid or something, thats always the way with any large sum of money, some will get into the wrong hands, its cheaper to write that off than to try and prevent it though.

Well yes of course, much of that ends up in the wrong hands, but if 1 pound in 5 gets to the kids who need only pence to save their lives on medicine, then a 5er donated makes a big difference.

Africa is a chronic ongoing problem though, not an instanaeous disaster, its easier to fix things in somewhere relatively modern and civilised like pakistan than in africa.

Pakistan have donated to other countries who have had similar tragedies already I suspect, most modern governments do so.

The first thing it needs is a public who take a pride in their country and who support their government I guess mate, as thats certainly what it had at all the points in history that britain was great, going by this thread though, its fucked if people are going to squabble over us each giving 20p to a very worthwhile charitable cause.

Its for a combination of reasons, and im not privvy to enough information to know all of them but I can say with a lot of confidence that "strengthening the special relationship we have with the US" will be one of them.

I personally suspect even if I had ALL the info, I would still not decide to send the troops there if it was up to me, but its impossible to second guess what you would do if you had all the info when you havent got it, so there may be more to it than I realise.
