Default Spec-r intercooler - massive improvements

Got my car back from Spec-R after installation of one of their new 'bar & plate' intercoolers, fuck me what a difference. Took the car back to Mark @ M.A. Developments to adjust the fueling and he has managed to get the map back to the original settings from the last dyno (677bhp on pump fuel), he managed to get six degrees back in that he removed when the engine was re-installed as the intercooler that was in the car before was strangling it. The charge air temps when mapping were unbelievable, on one 178mph mapping run the increase over ambient was just 10 degrees c, where Mark would normally see 20-25 degrees c if not more, averaging at just 7 degrees over the mapping runs on the day. The difference is like night and day compared to how the car drove before. It drives like an aspirated engine off boost and spool up is superb.

Here's some pics showing the intercooer/pre-rad and the other goodies:

This is the same intercooler set up as mine, only it's a polished for one of Petes gay customers, think his name is James (Space_hopper).

For those of you who don't know my car (Brunters 2004):

I'll leave it to Mark to put up the temp details from the intercooler

Rods is 95mm (rated 1000bhp), mine is 82mm (rated 900bhp). I had an 'RS500 spec' after market jobbie before (Pro-Alloy, Pace kind of thing) so yes.

It's pretty much how the original 4x4 intercoolers were constructed as opposed to having similar core to a radiator.

Didn't experience this problem personally. To be fair Stu his stuff is in such demand he's bound to get behind, he's only human. He's always trying to help poeple out which does put him behind, hates to say no to anyone.

Im well impressed at how well the new garret bar and plate cores seem to work, although they arent really new in the sense they are fundamentally almost the same as the original 4wd coolers like Ade mentioned, funny how things go full circle back to what ford probably spent millions developing!

If you go for the 3" core you will more than likely need to run slim line fans aswel

Ade,
Looks like some great work mate, have you had to modify the car to get it to fit or is it direct replacement?

Hi Gav.

It's all direct replacement. You do have to use slim line fans though.

Where does every1 buy the garrett cores from?
I might get 1 of their charge cooler cores.
From ATP it's only $280=£177 for the 1000bhp core
Then just gotta find some1 to weld end tanks on it.
