Same here, not on a T3 but many other turbos, as long as its only bearings and seals its ok.

I always think that whenever I read a "rebuild my turbo" thread. Guy told me the other day his bearings were rattling (and it wasn't a roller bearing turbo).

Done it several times with good results, with eBay re-build kits too, and as said i hope the seals are hard too as they are cast iron piston ring seals! Maybe worth doing the valve stem seals though mate as its common on the old cvh, on overrun the inlet vacum pulls oil past them. Can be done with the head on if you make up a special tool.

i have the seals and im waiting on a neighbour coming good with the tool he has in a toolbox somewhere.never had a turbo in bits before but assumed because the car has sat for a good while the seals may have went hard/perished etc as when you think of a seal you think of a nice oiltight piece of rubber.

i know what you mean but with the temperatures involved with the turbo they wouldnt last long! the dynamic seals are just like tiny cast iron piston rings. im sure there are step by step guides on youtube on turbo re-building, have a swatch and see what you think. the most important thing is marking it all up first so it goes back together in the same place. BTW you can tell your a plumber, just put a couple of tap washers in it lol.

Thats cheap enough for a re-build if you dont fancy doing the work youself, my own personal opinion is that with a 50 quid re-build kit and a few hours work the end results are the same. The turbo is balanced before it is striped down and therefore will be balanced when it goes back together. But then you cant offer a warranty with your own work can you! up to you lee
