Zafria 1.9 cdti SRI 150hp worth buying?
Hi all,
I'm toying with the idea of getting the Mrs a Zafria 1.9 cdti SRI 150hp on 2006/7 model.
Does anyone hava any experience with these? how good are these engine etc?
Any common issues?
I know my way around a VAG PD engine but zero experience with the vauxhall 1.9 cdti engine.
Any info would be great
Thanks
Bobby

These are excellent engines!
I have a Golf with a BKD engine and a remap and my mate has an Astra Van with the dealer tuning box on. It beats my car easily. Just give the EGR valve a clean out.
I should imagaine you should be able to get good power from one

I use the auto box version at work and they are dreadful. The box is just about bearable when using it around town, but put it into the sport mode and its as jerky as anything. I havent heard a single person say they like the car ever since we have had them. Personally I would steer clear.
The ride is average, but the 18" wheels dont really help.

pritty good cars really so long as the milage is low. we have had a few vectra and zafiras, high millage ones in with some painfull canbus problems. the engines seam to be fairly bullet proof tho even tho they are made by fiat.

I opted for a grand scenic over the zafira, you should compare them. The zafira was awful inside and felt so bland. If you do buy a zafira, make sure its low mileage - I had nothing but bother with my vectra cdti engine. Also might wanna look at Chrysler voyagers?

Cheers

These are okish engines!main problems are alternators going down, turbos can be a problem, being a z19dth the swirl flaps on the inlet manifold can be a problem which if they fail require a new inlet manifold!if the car has a dpf they do indeed need to be taken for a steady run on the motorway every now and again the regen the dpf

Just got a email from the guy and i asked him to confirm if the car is running spot on and he mentioned the following:
The only thing that I would say is that on acceleration the car holds back for a fraction of a second and I have spoken to a mechanic and he say`s that it is typical of that engine.
Anything to be concerned about?

i looked at zafira's but didn't think they seemed much bigger than an estate car, i ended up with a mk2 galaxy as it was a much better all rounder, nearly bought an s-max but it was twice the money & i'm tight!!
Bobby, the do a PD150 galaxy
TimRud, with a proper remap the 2 litre diesels should fly, is it the 140bhp? they can be mapped to over 200bhp, on a general file about 180-190

Yeah mine is a 140, but my mate who had the car from new had the remap done before I bought the car from him, so I'm kinda stuck with it at the moment. Plus I always think the car should be more economical, a very steady drive and it is rare I get over 50mpg, going on the motorway totally kills the fuel!

As for the Galaxy do the rear seats fold into the floor when they are not required?

Legend
We do a lot of these as punters don't seem to be able to get enough of them at the moment [especially the Sri CDTi 150s in black] and they're not bad cars, no major issues with them.
I'm guessing your budget is circa Ł8k? My money would be in a Mazda 5 [back seats fold flat] or Touran [back seats disappear under the floor and the centre row can be taken out in seconds, folding to a suitcase size].
I personally prefer the Mazda out of the lot.

Bobby, the seats don't fold into the floor (they do on s-max & mk3 galaxy) depends on how much room you need, i take 1 back seat out & the outside seat in front of it, that way i get 5 of us in there with my mountain bike & a couple of kids bikes. Storing the seats could be a pain in the arse for some people, i park the galaxy in front of the garage so when removing seats just leave them in the garage.
i liked the look of the zafira, as Paddy says the black sri cdti is a good looking motor, i just found it a bit tight with a baby seat & 2 kids in the middle row (ps Paddy, thats 3 kids to whack you in the nuts now)

We also have the 6 speed box with the selectable semi and I still think they are poo. The engine seems to be alrigh though with no real problems to report.

Guys thanks for all your input its been really good. To be honest you've put me off the vauxhall lol
I really want the rear seats to fold away into the floor so that narrows it down to the VW Touran. Better stock up on more vw505 oil lol

I've got a vectra with the 1.9 cdti 150 engine and the engine is really good, someone above says look for low mileage ones but i'd like to disagree as my mate works for a saab specialist and the saabs using the same engine it always seems to be the cars with low mileage that have been pottering around town off boost that seem to have the problems as the inlet manifolds and dpf get clogged up and the turbo's end up breaking quicker. Mines a 54 plate on 107,000 miles and touch wood has not had any problems so far and i drive it hard all the time.
