will this be a write off???
Hi All,
Girlfriend was out in my car today, driving along a main road, minding her own business, when a royal mail van pulled out of a side road, straight into the side of it.
It's an 04 plate Astra SRI 2.2 petrol, with 64k on the clock.
So if there are any experts out there who know about these things, do you think the insurance company will write it off?

The rear quarter has a kink in it, right by the corner of the window, but hard to get a pic of it.

The passenger door has been pushed up into the roof edge;

And this is the drivers side door to show how much the passenger door has moved;

So what do you think, write off or not?
Thanks
Rich

I know that not too long ago the write off threshold was stepped up by insurance companies to some thing daft like 70%. So the repair cost has to be more than 70% of its value in order for the insurance comppany to class it as a write off.

write off yeah but that could be repaired quite easily tbh ive pulled worse b pillars than that roughly back to shape you could probably even repair the quarter as well, it would never be 100% but if it was mine i would let them write it off then buy it back repair it and sell it on for a nice tidy profit
most accidents are repairable but it's down to the assessor. we've had cars that we started to strip down then the assessor told us he'd written it off, then on another occassion we had a bmw, not too disimiliar to your damage but also the rear was caved in due to a following car going into the back of it aswell, we didn't take a second look at it, then the assessor told us to repair it!!! you can never really tell when it comes to assessors
best way is to lift the carpet and take a look underneath, if the floor pan is creased then just the jig work will be Ł800+ alone let alone the rest

you will not need to ask to buy it back its non fault, the best method is to deal direct with the other onsurance, it produces a much quicker turn around and also you wont need to pay an excess if they do repair
i use this method if an when need be, i had a car wrote off last year, i had a cheque in the post 9 days later, if i had left it to my co would of taken a couple months
they have no right to your salvage, keep the car at home, normally what will happen is eventually one of the reps from there insurance will call you. once the assessor has seen it you will have a call within a week, i however called them 2 days later, keep ontop of them, get there ref number once you have been in contact with them, tell your insurance company you want to deal direct with the insurnance co yourself as you feel it will be quicker.

That's a gonner,I'd be charging the INS company at least 2k odd for that repair plus parts,vat etc.coming in off the street it's going to be a g minimum plus bits.
would say thats a gona, make sure you get a fair pay out. My sisters CTR got written off and they wanted to offer 4800 - she had taken a deposit at the time for 5500 !!!
After some sweet talking the assesor he upped the price to 5500 for her.

And the personal injury claim,that neck of hers must be hurting by now!!!but ffs don't use their solicitors,you'll get about Ł1200.my missus just cashed her cheque for Ł17000 through a real solicitor,took a while though!!!
As an assessor I'd total loss that without even Thinking twice about it.
Your best bet is too see if royal mail do 3rd party intervention as said above it will be sooo much quicker and won't effect yr no claims.

In the insurance companies eyes that's fucked look in the resto threads on here and it's a walk in the park try pm'ing dingle he's handy with turning fucked looking wings mint maybe he would tell you what would be involved fixing it yourself if you buy it back
looks a write off before you even look a bit deeper to see if the axle is bent and the wheel is damaged.on panelwork and the cars age and value i would say its an insurance total loss,might drive straight and need a 1/4 and a door but the cost to an insurance co will render it scrap.
insurance will without doubt write her off mate i am sorry to say!but they will prob let you keep her,so you might be able to get some good quotes and with second hand/non genuine parts be able to put her back on the road and have some green left in ya sky

its a non fault dont panic mr mannering, they will pay out to vertually retail money prob around 3500 if your lucky
however you may find a slight deduction for the value of the salvage, the car should sell on as is for around 600 -800

Get your money and buy another car, Not worth having back of the insurance in my opinion mate if you cant repair it yourself it will end up costing you and youll be stuck with a car that a worth as much cuz its on the register
I've spoken to the garage and they said they have put forward a recommendation to the insurance company that it's marked as a total loss. But can't do anything until I have confirmation from them.
Will then wait to see what cash value they offer, they've also said that they will automatically offer the car back to me, so just have to wait and see how much for and then decide.
They've given me a 44 mile old, 10 plate, insignia sri diesel, until the claim is settled. Awful car, but I can't imagine it will be that cheap per day, so think they may pay up quickly to get the matter resolved.
