Lots of people are updating, so give it a couple of days and try again.

it says

the network connection timed out

make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active and try again later.

Have you tried logging into the iTunes store? Does it let you do that?

Right so there's nothing wrong with your network settings.

The update on my broadband con which ain't slow took me 10mins,as said it's more likely to be the amount of people updating at the moment.

I tried putting on the 4.0.1 update last night and mine was coming up with error code 21.

Tried everying, nothing worked. It is suggested that if you use another pc/laptop to do the update on then you can then go on to your own laptop/pc to restore the phone and sync it.

Had to wait for the other half to come home with the laptop this morning. But it worked and I now have my phone back.

Oh and it was using the same wireless broadband and security.

Odd that. I did mine, and my wife's phone last night and it took about 2 mins each with no errors.

It's probably Jobs giving preference to Mac owners
