I have just put my 1990 xr3i cab H reg back on the road after being stood for 6 years.

Its very tappy i no this is commen, have changed the oil but im thinking of doing 500 miles in it then changing it again and using a flush in hope that it runs abit smoother, will this work??

Also it does like going slow it jumps and misfires, have changed plugs and leads, its a little better but still not good. Could it be old fuel still in system and just needs more miles put on it......

HELP PLEASE!!!!

change all your filters if you havent already, if its stood 6 years id change the fuel as it will have gone off,,

 

As said change fuel and filter, then just give it some miles, do a super service check timing as well, renew cambelt before it breaks.

Have done all filters, except the fuel filter but that will be done. Also doing the oil in another 100 miles, am hoping engine will sound a little healthier!! Cambelt has been bought, fitted this week!!

 

6 years new fuel and filter is a must before you start to try to diagnose problems.

 

Agree with that, especially the cambelt.

 

Where is the fuel filter on a 1990 xr3i Efi?

 

just above the gearbox, its a silver thing a bit bigger than a coke can

 

Is it held in with one bracket around it, and have a pipe going on one end and other going out the other?
