starter motor trouble
when i bought the car the guy told me that when the car gets hot the starter wont turn over, didn't stop me from buying the car tho as it mint.
anyways when i finally got to driving the car it started up fine first time, drove to the petrol station, filled up and the starter never attemped to turn over but it bump fine. next morning car started up first time no problem, drove for about 15-20 minutes turned the car off and same problem again, so bumped it and started fine, few days later the starter completly packed in.
so i put a new starter on, started fine and started first time everytime i turned it off for that day. the next day went to petrol station filled up and wouldnt start again. but then the next day the new starter motor completly packed up. (lasted 3 days)
so took it back and they gave me another new 1 poped that 1 on and again this 1 has lasted me 3 days aswell.
i have now actually bin through 4 starter motors and each 1 has burnt out, any got any ideas what could be causing them to keep burning out??
P.S. its a fiesta rs turbo Jreg
regards john

Where are you getting the starters from, Factor or starter recon specialist?
Are they brand new or recon?
Who told you / how did you determine that the starter has burnt out?
Have you tried any of the starters directly on a battery with the starter out?
Have you checked the earth from battery to block is good?

well i cant seem 2 think its the starters ever. well the supplier wont replace anymore after this 1 so wanna get the problem sorted before i put this last 1 on.
a mate said it could be a dodgey wire so will trace and replace the wires back 2 see if thats the problem.
im gettin the starters from the supplier that the shop i work in deals with. there are recon 1s also.
never knew that they had a heat sheild for the starters. in that case i haven't got 1 lol
tripod theres a few pictures in my album, will be updatein a few new1 soon
cheers john

Heatshield first fella, had the same trouble on my s1 years ago.it may well have burned up a few of the lt wires going to the starter so give them a good looking at,clean everything up nice with a wire brush etc so you make good contact.copper grease won't harm your progress either, but be a bit conservative with it as it's conductive although keeps the corrosion away from the terminals.

get a hold of a flat sheet of metal that can be knocked into shape easily enough.
Mark out mounting holes and drill them and bend it into shape where required in order to fit round the starter.
I had to do something similar years ago for an alternator heatshield

rite last nite iv replaced all wires for the starter, replaced earths, heat wraped my down pipe to the backside of the sump, and new starter motor, started fine and everything.
drove it to work this morning about half hours drive, turned it off went to see if it would start and nothing.
when turn the key battery light go little bit dimmer like the power is goin somewhere, tested the battery and thats fine.
brother has thoughts that it mite be the immobilser playing up when the car get warm.
any ideas????
