mate of mine paid 30 for a mot at some backstreet garage, thought he had a great deal as he had a free re test and 2 weeks to sort out any problems with it. Surprise surprise they failed it. Told him the underneath had bad corrosion and wouldnt last another year if it didnt get welded.
He was gutted so i got under and had a look for him and couldnt see anything that looked that bad so he took it to another garage for a second opinion and they couldnt find nothing either lol. Looks like they were just out to try and make more money.

It's a straight 50-55 everywhere decent by me. I'm not too sure they'll find anything to fail on my motor, it's full dealer history and just been serviced. Ah well, it'll save me some pennies anyway!
By the way, if a cars a fail it'll fail anywhere

Is that a main dealer or 'all electric' cause I wouldn't let all electric touch my lawnmower lol. Interested to know tho as there aren't many skoda dealers in our neck of the woods

30 is very cheap.I'm in the trade and pay 40 but no retest fee and have pretty much open ended time to get them done.boys are fair too but won't dodge emmissions or rust etc.

Team HOTHOT!
£30 is very cheap for an MOT - Government rate is something like £56 or thereabouts now?
I pay £40 but I reccomend a lot of work the way of the garage I use and they are friends of the family too so win win
Mate of mine took his Mk3 (51 plate) TDCI Mondeo for a £30 National MOT with that special offer and they said it needed new brake discs (excessive corrosion) all round along with new pads (below prescribed level) and a new exhaust (unable to test emissions due to leaking).
Strange that - I had fitted new discs and pads a week earlier to it and the exhaust was new last year
I went down with him and pointed out that the things it "failed" on were brand new items and after 10 mins the nugget on the counter booked it in immediately for a retest and amazingly it passed
Sort of proved my point that they will try and fail it on things that the average man in the street won't dare touch/won't know about

Nationwide Auto centres = Static Pikeys. They're on about £45 p/h labour rate too!
They'll fail your car on stuff like head light alignment, wipers splitting, hand brake adjustment/low effort and such like. Stuff you can't check without specialist equipment.

my mate own an mot garage in slough but they are bloody well strict and still only charge 30-35 so im happy with that as i get a great service at a good price and know the car has been checked over properly.
but then i also have another garage locally up my sleeve if things need passing

Just MOT'd my wifes and my car for £27.42 each and no fails.
I asked about the retest price and it would have been £13.71
Fucking bargain for those of you who usually have to pay circa £45-£50

I renewed the insurance on the Rover I use to pull my trailer in March and because More Than wouldn't lower the price (but even so were still cheaper than anywhere else ) they chucked a free MoT into the deal - all I had to do was ring them when it was due and they would book it in.
Rang up last month as MoT was due 9th July, they booked me into Kwik Fit
Must admit though it passed first time so can't complain really...
