clutch technical questions........
hi, basically im in the process of fitting an mtx75 box out of a 1.8 si zetec 130ps cabriolet escort. It is the same gearbox as a rs2000.
trying to sort a clutch for it has become a bit of a nightmare. Ive been looking at specs of the clutches and theres one bit i done understand.
basically, im aiming at using the 1.8 si /xr3i zetec flywheel. I was going to buy a clutch kit for the same gearbox which is
diameter 240mm
spline diameter 25.4 mm
no of splines 23
thing is, i want to use a cossie centre plate which is very very similar
diameter 240mm
spline diameter 26.0
number of splines 23
thing is, its all obvious to me apart from the spline diameter part. could someone please explain what is spline diameter?
is it possible to to fit the cossie plate?

the spline diamiter is the how thick the spline is measured across,,,, just like the clutch plate is
think of is as a drilled hole,, 25.4 is gonna be looser so there is a good chance that it will only engage the ends of the teeth and chip them off,,,,, and then no power transmitted,, but it will be alot easier to line the box up.... well the first time as you will be taking it back out again to fit the right plate

ahhh so its the size of the shaft (or hole of the clutch from one side to the other.....)
so if i put the cossie plate on the xr3i shaft, there will be 0.6 gap...........
makes sense now.....
thats the thing, ap dont make a plate for this gearbox.Thats what burton power told me.
so its a case of getting a cossie centreplate made but with a spline diameter of 25.4.......
this is correct isnt it?

there will be in theory a extra .2 and a bit mm between the teeth and the plate,,,, that means tips of the clutch tbh when you look at it,,,,, it could be fine but tbh i doubt it as car tollerences are quite precise hence the non OEM aftermarket can be just shite
