Default escort estate

a local scrappy guy who acquires legit motors for stripping recently got a 99 plate escort estate. fairly tidy and am after an estate as i'm gutting my house out.
he says it's got a running problem so started it up and wouldn't idle. i opened the bonnet and too my surprise was a cvh!!! you learn something every day lol
so my question is could i change the engine for my rst lump, i take it the gearbox would fit?am not bothered about the lack of lsd just thought it'll help me out plus be a lil bit rude also
comments on whether it'll work, i'm pretty sure it would

a couple of things, the scrappy was told that the head gasket MAY have gone hence why he's got it for scrap, i didn't mention this as my question was whether it'll work not whether to do it,
also i now only have my lwb single seat transit so would like an all round car with a little bit more power than a 1.4
so would the engine from my broken s2 fit this gearbox?

Yeah, will bolt straight on,all ford boxes should match all ford engines.I've got a 1.4cvh in my escort shed and it's fine to knock about in but crap on fuel!!only problem you may have is with the cat for emmissions etc as obviously the turb lump was pre 92 unless you know a friendly mot tester, but I'm struggling a bit where I live as the guy I used to use lost his licence
