Default Ford GT 266.9mph standing mile!

I have had a search but cant see it posted anyware else.

Twin turbo'd Ford GT doing 266.9mph in a standing mile, which they are claiming is a new world record. Car looks very street oriented with air con etc! It would take some beating at an event like TOTB! God knows how much power it must have to reach those speeds, perhaps Rod could have a stab at telling us?

That'l get beaten by Joels granada. Lol. Although a GT is slightly more aerodynamic. Awesome speed tho.

Fantastic!! Love twin turbo GTs.

It's pretty impressive given that it's on a standard block and heads, gearbox and still has air con!

1500bhp with an estimated 1200bhp at the wheels. Go on youtube and write in hofman ford gt, and watch it eat a supercharged corvette c5 with 1000bhp. Lmao mental power!

You couldn't exactly class the 2 cars in the same style! Plus thats a speed from a drag strip not airfield

When Rod talks about the fastest speed in the UK being 223mph and the fact he is going for 215, that puts into perspective how fast that GT is!

And those were over distances much greater than 1 mile !! from a standing start too.

I dont think any of could comprehend how bloody fast that GT must be. And to anyhone suggesting it has 1200bhp or so....I really doubt that.

It may be aerodynamic, and have good traction etc. But no way in hell is a car with ONLY 1200bhp achieving those sorts of speeds in 1 mile. I'd say its closer on 2000

well they are both road legal, and most drag strips are old runways airfield whatever you want to call them, same as stevies granny i bet he would hit over 200 at brunters with aerodynamics of a brick,im sure he did 190 something at totb ,perhaps you can clarify stevie

Again, there is road legal, and a car that can actually be used on the road. And Santa pod with a surface you actually stick to when you walk on it, is a far cry from any road surface or airfield.

I did 190.7 many years ago over a mile at TOTB, more recent years have been 1km and highest was 183mph.

At another mile event a few years ago, where the organisers timing gear didnt work, and rabbits ate through the wiring so they dropped it to 7/8th mile without telling anyone.

I managed 196 and 198mph via my own logging over the 7/8th mile distance

The only run their timing gear did work, was my final run and was 192mph, although it had already blown up at that point lol

Always knew it was stupid trying to race with a broken alternator. But when you're so close.....its hard to say no. Wont be doing that again !

Its hardly road legal in the same way that the GT is though. Its a proper drag car with tubbed arches, tube chasis and huge drag tyres.

Good point about the GT doing it in only a mile as opposed to bruntingthorpe where you can get a mile and a half.

Think i gave you a part off mine if i remember correctly Steve although i cant remember what .
Steve should do 200 at Brunters but reaching past 215 is a totally different ball game. To reach 200 you will need to be doing 185+ at the mile to reach 215 you have to be doing 185+ at 1/2 mile . Thats half the distance. Its all about Horsepower, aero & gearing.

Remember at over 200mph that last half mile is only 8secs & you need to brake .

My wiring plug for the crank sensor failed at a soldered joint.

You cut one of the two pin mini timer plugs off your car so I could effect a repair...cheers lol !!

Although everything that happened that day was shouting at me to stop racing !!!! I just wouldnt listen lol

It cost me dearly.

if you want to see what the GT40 engine is good for have a look at the short blocks on here http://www.modularmustangracing.com/ the last one on the list is the all alloy GT40 block based race engine, they list it as being good for 2500 bhp, now that is power, with a capital P

i perfectly understand what your saying Rod and your car speeks for itself i was saying i wonder what his car would do ,as you probably know its supposed to be 1650hp twin turbo v8 that was all ,and have seen it many times run in the 7s on the quarter at over 190mph terminal, but with correct gearing it must be capable of some high top end even with the audi,s aerodynamics with the power it has

there is a british 4 door saloon and estate car that uses the basic same engine as the gt40 and that the gt40 engine would bolt into, with the same bolt pattern around the bell housing, the MG ZT v8, uses the 4.6 single cam version of the modular engine, i could see someone having some fun with the MG ZT v8 one day, would make for a nice sleeper

The problem is running 7secs over a quarter at full chat is a totally different ball game to running 1.5miles. Topspeed cars are as specialised as drag cars just completely different.

The only way is to do a run & then we will know.
