Default iPhone update has cleared all my contacts!!

When I plug my phone in earlier it said new software update, so I downloaded it and everything is fine apart from the fact it's wiped all my contacts, tried restoring it but nothing!
Any ideas?
Cheers Rich

you synced the iphone first to back up everything before doing the update, yes? if not then theres your problem.

ive tried restoring too, but again it doesnt work, i presume due to the fact the backup is for the old firmware, and the phone is on the new ios4 firmware! great!

Are you all on 3G or 3GS phones?

I upgraded my 3GS the other night and it works fine, all contacts there, all apps there, everything works as it should other than any photos I have put on the phone myself needing reloading due to pixelating slightly, but as said, reloading cured them.

I know the people with the 3G ones have had trouble as it appears the OS4 does not seem compatible.

for all those who have had problems can you not reload OS3x then resync in itunes after, this at least might give you your contacts back and a usable phone.

I was gonna DL os4 tonight for mine but wont bother just yet.

Did you just have contacts in phone? I keep mine in outlook, sync outlook with itunes and sync phone with i tunes so it doesnt matter if i tunes fucks up, which it did when i uploaded OS4, however it all works perfectly and i just resynced itunes with outlook and contacts are back

You could try and import contacts from your sim card,it's in the settings menu somewhere on the phone, will try and dig it out and get back to you.
