Default Cylinder Heads - Warped?

If you run a steel rule across the underside of a head should it fit flush to the surface all the way along? Head in question is a zetec head.

Thanks

Simon

So if the head is on the table in front of you upside down there would be a slight dip between 2 and 3.

So If I run a straight enge over this there should be a gap between the edge and the head?

thats what i heard mate, i think lol, but its only a couple of thou.

put the rule down the centre from cyl 1 to cyl 4, if i am right there is a v.small gap on the bit that joins cyl 2 and 3.

i only got a 6" rule otherwise id have a look at one of my heads....

Cheers mate.

Why would it be designed like this though? I take it probably something to do with heat expansion of metal?

Not sure about any dip? Never ehard that.

Id not even entertain doing it with a metal ruler mate, take it to an engineering shop and have them check it for trueness!

Just my opinion, i know its an arseache to get it there etc, might cost a few bob, but its the only way id be happy putting a head on a car. Steel rulers, no!

OK ill go in depth a bit here.

Basically Im gonna buy a head to have a mess aobut with - but i dont wanna start off with something thats fooked.

Basically I'd use that straight edge check just to see if its worth me parting with my cash in the first place
