Was most likely my blue gauge, as I posted up about the temps I had seen once using it.
They sell for anything up to £40 on the bay, but sometimes as low as £15-£20.
If you only want it to measure a single temp it can be done for around £4, I measure air filter and plenum, adding a switch is only a few quid extra.
They are(if it's the ones you're reffering to) 5V, so a 2 p resistor later work perfect on 12V, I make them safe up to 15 just to be on the safe side.
If you pm me your email, I'll send you some piccies, I have an account where I get mine, so could get you one add a resistor, and extend the wire for sensor as is very short as supplied for computers, comes to about £6-£7.

I can sort you out one for a decent price mate. And it wont be running off a 2p resistor either They work for a while but eventually they burn out. using a resistor to run a 5v item off 12v is a very crude way of doing things.

Its very similar to the £34.99 jobby in that ebay link

The ones I sell have a proper thermocouple and can measure any air / fluid temps up to 250°C or with the uprated thermocouple, can even be used as an EGT gauge. We also do a multiple version with rotary control, that allows multiple sensors to be connected to the same gauge (could be used to monitor transmission temps - front and rear diff plus gearbox, all off the same gauge).

In fact, we have done one for a Norwegian customer where it has five EGT probes and cycles through each one every few seconds, so that during mapping the individual cylinder EGTs can be monitored, along with the combined overall EGT in the down pipe. This means that (providing the ECU can do it), the cylinders can have the fuelling trimmed so that the EGTs are the same, which gives a good guide to the fuelling.

Also these gauges can be used to trigger water injection (with the correct relays) or an alarm feature, to alert you when a particular temperature has been reached. They also sample THREE times every second, which is sufficient refresh rate to capture rapidly changing ACTs / EGTs etc.

Unfortunately due to the high costs of these thermocouples, they are not the cheapest gauge around....

So the thermocouple fitting will screw straight into one of the vacum threads on a Cossie inlet then Mike? and you could drill/tap a thermostat housing to take one...

What size is the thermocouple? Is it a fitting, then nut/olive jobbie?

Thinking I could get one for ACT and one for coolant then ditch the SECS monitor as will be on aftermarket management anyway...

No Mike 1/8NPT is the size of the thread, then thermocouple goes through this with a nut and olive. So I'm going to presume the thermocouple is 3mm then?

The thread on the thermopcouple where it screws into the plenum is 1/8" BSP .
